Have you ever donate blood?

How was your experience? How much can you donate at any one time?

I was a regular donor until my job stop me from donating blood. It is quite ok for me, just a tiny pin prick. You can donate every 3-5 days technically of about 450ml each time. You do replace your blood fast if you are healthy.

Plus side is that you get a thorough blood screening for free each time you donate blood.

I did twice. The first one is the funniest one. I haven't eat anything that day and my friend suddenly came to my house and ask me to go to some blood donation event. So off we go and donate a pint each (both first timer) and the organizer said we entitled for lucky draw.???? Yes, lucky draw and we won a big box of biscuits and big can of Milo (haha...). We decide to send the biscuits to my house before getting something to eat. When we reach there, there's no power and the lift cannot be used so i have to climb the stairs to 4th floor. When i reached 3rd floor i feel something very2 wrong with me. By the time i open the house door, i fainted.. Hahaha.. probably about 3 minutes. So the next time i donated my blood, i eat a lot and rest a lot after. Not by climbing stairs to 4th floor. I will donate again.

I also have blood type O and I donate 3 times a year, apparently the body holds about 8 pints of blood and one donates 1 pint of that everytime.

Here in the UK we get a free cup of tea and some biscuts afterwards so I guess its all worth it.

hehehe

Just me!
I believe you can donate One pint! every three (3) to five (5) days.

the experience was OK some people are afraid of needles so i don't know what your experience would be like.

Good luck and thank you if you do decide to donate.

Just me!

Yup...here where I'm from they sometimes have these donate blood campaigns and it will be held at shopping centres and Train stations.
The few times I've donated has all been at these places because its more convenient than going to the hospitals.

After we register there will be a doctor who will take a drop of blood (to check certain illness I assume),they'll check our body temperature and blood pressure before they'll allow us to donate.

It is about 2 bag (you know the small blood pack bag they keep blood in) each time.It can only be three months before you can donate again.

At the end they'll give you some iron tablets to be taken for the next 3 days.Drinks and biscuits are also provided. If you feel dizzy after wards you can just sit down first and drink something sweet before continuing your shopping...

Yes, twice to the Red Cross. I stopped after I learnt that I would grow fat by donating blood cos new healthy blood would reproduced automatically. Freak me out, you know I am quite vain.

I donated blood when I was a senior in high school... mmm about 4 years ago. Anyways, I signed up a few weeks before and when I got to the place, they first pinch your finger to take a mini sample to see if your blood "qualifies" or has enough iron in it, etc. to use it. While they test the blood, they ask you all your info, some dumb questions such as "have you ever had sex with a man who has had sex with another man?" and other things so that they make sure your blood isn't all infected with AIDS or anything. After all that stuff, they finally had me lay down on some bed and put the needle in my arm. To keep my arm pumping out the blood, I had to roll this ball around and in total, they took out about one pint of blood. Afterwards I felt really dizzy, lightheaded, and wanted to pass out, but the twinkies and juice made me feel better :) It was an okay experience overall but I doubt I will ever do it again. Just looking at my arm with a needle and seeing the bag slowly fill up made me all queasy!

I've done it!! Finally!! I overcome my own fear, and it felt good. So proud of myself. It's not as bad as how you think it would be. Well the needle is big, enough to create a nice scar. But its not painful at all, getting a vaccination is worse. No joke! At any one time they can allow you to donate about 450ml with 3 months gap.

Should try for yourself... I took some memorable pictures. A good keep. Definitely will do it again. No more fear...

Nope. I've tried to donate before. But they said no enough height & weight. I'm not sure if I can still donate, because I've stopped growing up.

I would probably have like to if not for the fact that I am anaemic and underweight. Doctors and nurses just need to take one look at me to decline me. They said that it is me who requires blood.

Here's the irony. Whilst I wonder how it feels to have your blood flows out of your body, I do know that it is extremely distressful for some foreign material to enter your body even though it is liquid. Therefore, I do believe that blood entering is more painful than blood leaving.
