Heard someone commited suicide via MRT in Singapore again...is it becoming a trend? What do you think?

yes it is defintely becoming a trend like today someone just did it, i think this year defintely has the highest rate of people jumping down the train, which is a very sad thing. the authorities should do something now or else when the integarted resorts open i would think more people will be doing it.

The authorities cannot do "physical" things to prevent suicides except "emotional help".For example, the authorities cannot build barriers at all tall buildings or beaches to prevent people from jumping off these buildings or into the sea. Neither can they ban sleeping pills at clinics or build railings at MRT stations to prevent commuters from jumping into the rail tracks to commit suicide.

People kill themselves for very compelling and sad personal reasons but certainly not to cry for media attention. I think it's cruel to make cynical remarks of people who commit suicides especially on how they kill themself.

Yes.. It is sad. There are too many cases..

Life in Singapore is stressful and the government isn't doing enough to help people..

It is becoming a trend, suicides via MRT tend to get a lot more media attention because of the fact that it involves an entire nation's transport system and its suicide rates. There will also be a lot of people present at the suicide scene, and naturally it will arouse a lot of curiosity as to why this individual committed suicide.

The authorities are not doing enough to stop this situation. Sometimes, even their cameras at the MRT stations are not even of much relative use. And the few sign boards at the open MRT stations advising people not to commit suicide...its useless.

Really, as you said, the relevant authorities should take measures to prevent such occurances. The MRT should be known as an efficient transport system, not as a means to commit suicide and get a lot of media attention at the same time.

Yes, especially recently the no of suicide cases are increasing. There could a lot of reason behind the suicide case. people may think that the press will try to find out the reason why he/she commit suicide.
I believe that it could be the stressful living standard in S'pore that caused a lot of people who can't take it to start to have such thinking of committing suicide in the MRT. This is not a good sign and hope the authority could do something about this without increasing the fares

Ya, my friends were joking if want to commit suicide must choose MRT, as the donation can up to $500,000! This is crazy, or maybe some Singaporean are foolish.

For $500,000, that's a lotta money... Here in the Philippines, there had been cases where people plunged to their deaths on rails yet the governement wouldn't even give a damn about it. Singaporeans are luckier yet with the rate of suicides, I cant help but ask, what could be wrong?
I've read about this incident over the net and whether it is suicide or accident, you cant help but feel sorry for the deceased. Few friends joked about sending a few Filipino bums to Singapore and these bums wouldn't think twice about jumping off the pedestal, just as long as the Singapore government would sent the donation over to their widows and orphans as soon as possible...
Sad but true.

For some of you guys info, MRT stands for Mass Rapid Transport in Singapore, it is a normal commercial train, just like MTR or Bullet train in other countries.

Yes, I totally agree that commiting sucide at train stations in Singapore have become a major trend. Old folks and youngsters are using this channel to end up their lives. Especially this week, we've 2 people committing suicides again in MRT stations.

Previous cases brought the death person's family a great sum of money as much as $500,000 due to sympathy for his case.
Thus, alot of Singaporeans are now misusing this channel for committing suicide and I seriously suggest our Singapore Government to do something on the security and awareness for our local people.

I just hope our society does not get too traumatised by their impoper actions.

If you look into the local papers everyday, thereis is nothing exciting. Our news are so censored.

So, MRT jumps will make the headlines......

I don't want to comment on those who committed suicide though...must have been really hard hit in order to just want to die...

It is the media. Now the media as tone down a lot on such report. They make sure not to sensationalise the matter. Let' s see if this works.

Yeah.. suppose its the fastest way to get good money. Anyway, sad that ppl actually uses the MRT to commit suicide. Have they thought of the consequences? The inconvience that they had caused as a result of their convenience? Selfish beings!
