Hi Harry,
I'm an expat living in Kuala Lumpur. Im not sure what your family needs are, but living is quite reasonable here.

A weekly shop for 3 would be around RM200 and you can eat out from RM50 - RM300<<nice restaurant, so RM7000 would be great. The only advice I would give is, do you have to pay rent as well. Petrol around Rm2 per litre. Movies RM15 each

Rent ranges from RM1500month to RM6,000 inner city or good suburbs....check it out...look on internet at certain areas..Ampang, Sri Hartamas are good areas, Bukit Bintang is city area and Shah Alam much cheaper.

But if you havent lived here, the people are amazing....kind, generally honest and very friendly.

Good luck making your decision, hope I helped you

most importantly, be thrifty.

cos if u are extravagant, no matter how much u earn...nothing is enough

Tan Sri Gabby
Internet bill: Rm88 (Broadband)
Utility Expenses:
Semi-D houses = Rm50 (water), RM500 (electric), Use mobile phone will do.

Bungalow a bit more expensive in electricity bills, about Rm700-900 (average 7 or more air conditioners)

Meal:
Meal about Rm10-20 per person in a nice restaurant. Decent restaurant cost about RM5 - Rm10 per person.

Entertainment:
Adult Rm12 (new movies) or Rm 10 (slightly old movies) or Rm5 on wednesdays.

Children fare about half price.

Fuel:
Rm1.92 per liter throughout Malaysia.

7k is MORE than enough. trust me. accept that offer and live like a rich man in malaysia.

Zee..zzzz....
for me ..not enough.
why?
so many things to pay ie: morgage, hire purchase, credit cards, education loans, life and medical insurance...and the list go on and on and on.

for you,
fully furnished house outside kl area, rm 2,000.
medical, one day admission without surgery, rm1,500.
car maintainance, rm 300 above-depends on type of car
groceries & household,
depends on how often you cook at home, rm2,000
brand new nissan murano RM300k above.

well, you may live well but not life on high end status I should say.

Bean
It's like earning $7,000 or £7,000 per month, more than enough!

shiqin_poe06

Depending on
1. which part of Malaysia you will be located i.e. KL is a bit expensive then in Penang or Johor .... East Malaysia is cheap in seafood but expensive in other things
2. do your children need to be babysit or sent to a play school or tuition ... can cuz up to RM1000 per month if you send your 3 kids for this matter ...
3. Do your employer provide you not only with car and accomodation but also mileage allowance ... this can be quite a lot nowadays especially due to the high fuel price
4. Do your employer provide medical benefits not only to you but your family members ... treatment can be a bit expensive if you seek for specialist i.e. pediatrics, obs. etc. but to go t the General Hospital, you might get too wait until your patience runs out ...

Generally speaking, RM7000 per month is ok (after deducting food & electricity) but I doubt you can save much as you will be tempted to visit the whlole Malaysia ... lol

Congratulation, you got a high salary. You can easily save 2K per month!

chesney c
You family can live comfortably with that kind of income. A salary of RM7,000 is consider high in Malaysia. I am sure your employer will provide you with accomodation. This will save you a substancial amount every month. If you are on your own, renting a medium size apartment near Kuala Lumpur ( i assume you are working in Kuala Lumpur ) is about RM1500-RM2000. Generally the cost of living in Malaysia is increasing. Foods are getting more expensive. To save on this, try to cook at home, only eat outside occassionaly. You probably need to set aside RM1000 for food. With transportation, internet, utilities and entertainment - you may need RM1500. The amount i stated is already on the higher side. You still can save up more. It just depending on what kind of lifestyle you are willing to get for your family. For a ordinary Malaysian family of 3, RM3000 or even lesser is enough for them. I am sure you can save more as your employer may provide or at least subsidise your accomodation and travelling expenses. I think you should have no problem saving at least RM3000 a month.

I think 7k is more then enough. If the company provide you accommodation and transportation are even better.
What is the living expenses I can't tell you unless you name the place you are going to work. Food and electricity, and internet I would said is around Rm 4-500 per month.
