Retired American policeman Randal Barnhart, who was subjected to a 2am raid by muslim religious enforcement officers, is reconsidering his plan to make Malaysia his second home.

â€œAfter that unpleasant episode two weeks ago, I do not feel like making Malaysia my second home. It is a pity because both my wife and I really love Langkawi,â€ he said.

On Oct 12, Barnhart, 62, and his wife Carole, 61, were in their rented condominium in Kuah when enforcement officers continuously knocked on their door at 2am, accusing them of committing "khalwat" (close proximity).

He said the officers demanded to see his marriage certificate, although he had told them that they were Christians and should not be subjected to Islamic law.

They felt humiliated by the raid by religious enforcement officers in Langkawi recently.
â€œWe find it difficult to forget the unpleasant episode. My wife was so terrified by the incident that she fears sleeping in that condominium,â€ he added.

Banhart said the officers were rude and insisted on â€œseeing the womanâ€ when he opened the door.

â€œMy wife had to show herself despite only having a sarong on at that time. We felt humiliated for being treated this way,â€ he said.

He said he had to send his wife back to the United States on the next available flight because she feared people might return to the condominium to terrify her in the middle of the night.

She flew home on Wednesday.

â€œI want the religious department to apologise to me and my wife in writing,â€ he added.

â€œI also want the department to compensate the RM4,315 I had to pay for the return ticket so that my wife could go home.â€

Banhart said he would be sailing to Thailand once his yacht was repaired.

Go to Bali. Its near Malaysia and you can hold hands and kiss too if you want. Forget it in Malaysia, you might get thrown in jail.

Yep what happened was definately uncalled for but very true that it happened. Neway , to answer your question.....try Pangkor Laut. Very private and exclusive, they do offer promotions so it wont burn a hole in your wallet. Good Luck!

place for lovers? hmmm, i would suggest cameron highland or bukit tinggi in pahang. neway, since u're staying in johor, why don't you go to tioman? or you can try a famosa in alor gajah, melaka. it's a nice place.

1st of all if you are a muslim, then u will be charged with khalwat, then there's no place like lovers place for u pal, only you can enjoy your lovers cell in jail...lol !

I can recommended that thePangkor Island Beach Resort is one of the best beach hotel that they provided the package for the honeymoon lover .The private beach and service and the special room that had jazucci and lovely swimming pool and the best views to enjoy and romantic evening for lover for sunset .Its one of the great and wonderful feeling for lovers.Yes malaysia !
