Chinese lucky number. ba in Mandarin, not sure in other dialects, but in english it is like "ate". We visit Malaysia (Sarawak) so know a little mandarin. Love your country & very friendly people. Great food & good weather. |

The emphasis is on the letter a and t. If you pronouce the word ate you emphasise the letter a and t. It is a long a not a short a. In other words your a should sound like ay. Or I agree with others on here, write it down on a piece of paper and carry it with you. English is made up of other languages and can be really tricky on times. Then do you need to know how to say in english or chinese? |

In mandarin/cantonese it is ba (like a sheep bah). A lot of the taxi drivers speak english so you could just say eight (ate). Probably the easiest way would be just to write it down. Every taxi driver would recognize it. |
