Barring other events of biblical proportions, the sun will move to its "red giant" phase several billion years from now as part of growing up, and will expand to the space where the orbit of the earth is. The earth will be completely incinerated (like Mercury) before that happens, though.
However, more recent simulations show that the Earth won't be destroyed completely. Rather, it will go out to a more distant orbit from the sun, moved by the sun's tidal forces.
After several billions of years, the sun will enter its "white dwarf" stage, lose its remaining fuel, become dim, and start to die. If the Earth still exists by then, it will become very, very cold, devoid of all life.
After billions of billions of years more, the universe will be so old and its expansion so much that almost all of the stars have died, the sky completely dark, and space so cold and silent. "Heat death" has been reached. If the Earth still exists at that point, there's probably no word to describe it.
But I do think that even before the sun reaches its "red giant" phase, humans would have perfected space travel and would have colonized other worlds and solar systems. Humans will evacuate the Earth well ahead of time.
As for the death of the universe, I guess there's no other way other than to escape to "another" universe. Hope humans will be technologically advanced enough by that time. |

Nuclear war? No. We can kill everyone on earth but the planet would survive. Volcanic eruptions? No they are part of the planet's life cycle. Asteroids? Again no they could kill everything but not the planet. Science says it could be when the sun dies. That would surely kill old earth. Maybe if the noon keeps getting farther and farther away the tides would stop and that might kill the planet. Maybe a rogue planet would strike us or just miss and rip our atmosphere away. Science has dozens of possible ways none of which are pleasant. But with any luck we will not be around to see the end. |

In about 4 billion years the sun will become a supernova, but if humanity still survive before then, we can manage to steer planet earth away from the sun and find a suitable place somewhere in the universe. |

Eventually, about 4 billion years from now the sun will run out of it's helium fuel and will become a red giant star. It will be so large that the earth will be swallowed up by it. By then all life as we know it will be impossible. Eventuall the red giant sun will cool and shrink to the point where stability is reached and it remains a cold cinder for ever.

I believe the Bible has already foretold the end of the world. We only need to read the Book. |

when the sun dies, it will, of course, cease from giving off heat and light that has supported life on our planet. resulting severe storms and weather/climate disturbances, famine, extremely cold temperatures, and widespread hunger will kill every living thing including yahoo! answers. |

But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare.
That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat.

This is my take on the end of the world. There are only 3 scenarios I could think of that will lead to the almost total annihilation of the world. Meaning there will still be people left after the disasters. First would be a meteor hitting the earth. Like what happened to the dinosaurs. Second would be a nuclear war. Defnitely it will be the US & allies against someone. Everyone else will suffer from the fallout. The last will be global warming. This includes us using the natural resources faster than it can be replenished. The world will not be able to feed its people. For all you know, this may be the reason for the war. |

The universe's expansion will slow to a halt, reverse direction and send 10 octillion (10 trillion billion) stars crashing back together in a final, apocalyptic Big Crunch, the mirror image of the universe's explosive birth. - The Big Crunch Theory. |

Honestly, I think it would happen so fast - like one big boom! - and then we're all gone. All living things - gone in nano second!!! It could be the skies coming down on us, the earth ground opening up and swallowing us, all the waters gushing on us - all of that, all at the same time, all at once! But the beauty of it all is there's no pain nor suffering for us.
When it's done, we all awake in Paradise. |

The bible says that the Lord will not destroy the earth with water just as he did in the time of Noah. But just as in that time period, when people are all merry making and are having fun and doing all sorts of perverted things, then the end will come, when we least expect it. Still he will send an ark and whoever enters it will be saved.
How will the world end, in a variety of different ways, but one thing that was mentioned (not by water) but by fire.
The signs are here if we know what they are. |
