My experience was Viet Nam in Huey1's and Cobras. Not so much fun but exileration. I was in a Cobra where the pilot went into inverted flight (which was said to be impossible) He also would stand it on its nose after Cong would fire and jump to the other side of a levee. My last flight in Viet Nam was on a Huey1 on the right hand skid on a stretcher. Shot through my right lung I was very thankful for the ride. Since you couldn't get me to fly on one, unless injured that is. I prefer flights with fixed wings otherwise.
Should add on the inverted flight I just take the pilot's word for it. I was too darn scared to look. And the nose stands, I was not aboard to witness those. Just heard about them. And I was not normally assigned to helicopters. A couple Cobra rides with a camera. I think the pilot was simply wanting me to barf, cause I didn't see anything as a reason to fly that crazy. On the Hueys simply transported and picked up in the field. Sure glad the copters carried my radar gear instead of backpacking it. Said to be possible but packing about 300 lbs of electronics by 2 men sure wouldn't be fun or fast. Needed to straighten tings out. My first paragraph made it look like I flew the things or something.
A couple times in the 60's I flew in airport to airport helicopters. Those seem nice enough. No idea the type but carried about 15 passengers and a whole lot quieter than militaries. I don't think I would care for a rooftop landing on a highrise though. I think I would compare noise and comfort to that of a light fixed wing. I know a few people that have taken the Grand Canyon helicopter tour. Some seem to like it but most seem to say, "Never again!"
I had a good deal of experience hooking drilling rigs up to helicopters. Nothing like being atop a 33 foot derrick and reaching for the steel hookup cable. Much like being hit by lightning I imagine. Static from the rotor. Leatned to hold on with first attempt after about 4 jolts my first time doing it. |

Amazing! Especially a black hawk over Baghdad, except for where you the part you hope it doesn't get shot down but had to be the most memorable moment in my life! |

Amazing. It is the best way to go site seeing. I was fortunate
enough to see Hawaii from a chopper. Only way to go |

It has its ups and downs. |

I wish I had rode one. But I think it's nothing too different with a plane. It's just more noisy. And sometimes it has ups and downs and sometimes it's faster than airplanes too. It could also feel like the best ride ever. |
