The Philippines is famous as a beautiful, yet inexpensive, place to visit or live. Many people want to retire there. The weather is never cold. The people are friendly. The women are beautiful, loyal, kind, and loving (my Filipina girlfriend told me to say that!). Even though some older people remember the World War II battles and events (like the Bataan Death March), most younger people know The Philippines are beautiful islands with good beaches. |

well, for George and Laura Bush, filipinos are very famous for the Chef at the White House is a Filipina. i'm sure that Bill Clinton will not forget his filipina nurse or doctor same with Christopher Reeve. Did you know that Rob Schneider is half Filipino (Mom is Pinay) and he's a famous comedian. Rosie O'Donnell can't forget Lea Salonga when she watched the Miss Saigon Show and when Lea won that Tony award for her performance. Manny Pacquiao is so famous now that makes the Phils famous than ever. Guess, Mexican boxers are mad at us now. Our leaders in the Phils is sooo famous though of corruption and a known fact all over the world. oh, lastly, the head chef on the last cruise i took in a famous cruiseline was a filipino. so what do you think? is Phils famous or not? |

Rainier, is there a Chinatown in China? There are also many Chinatowns here in the P.I. I'm also of Chinese descent, so don't get me wrong.
As for me, Philippines is famous for its people. We are an Asian race with a Latin blood. We may look and speak like Malays, but our heritage is Latin -- fiery and passionate! It's our Iberian heritage that sets us apart from other Asians.
So for me, it is B. |

A. I have been to more than 6 countries already (within Asia, Europe, and the US). They know the Philippines very well (or at least to those places I have gone to). Overall, their impression of the Philippines as a tourist spot is great. Unfortunately, though, they recall some bad memories of it (usually the Imelda shoes). |

I will answer your question with a question: famous where? The world is a big place. OK, assuming you want to know how famous it is around the world, I will answer that:
1) In the countries where there are many Filipinos (US, Oz, Canada, Middle East) it is famous.
2) In the countries where there are not may Filipinos ( Russia, Romania, etc) it is not famous.
Also, among what groups of people? The US military knows it very well, and many US military retirees settle there. Among the worldwide tourist crowds not many people go to the Philippines as compared to other countries (Spain gets 30,000,000 tourists a year, France -50,000,000, Philippines- maybe 2,000,000-3,000,000 a year. If you ask an average Joe Earthling where he wants to go and visit- he will say London, New York, Hawaii, France. Few will say - I want to go to the Philippines.
It is a bit off the beaten track, and it makes it attractive to a certain group of people who appreciate your culture and way of life, and keeps tens of millions of rude tourists from coming over and destroying your natural habitat while jacking up prices in the process. I hope it stays famous only to those who like you and appreciate you.. |
