iloilo...farming village...with 2K USD, so that's about 480,000 pesos...that's actually a huge amount of money to get by in ilioilo where the cost of living is very cheap and simple. Even if you need to pay for relocation/ housing, it would still be sufficient.

An average total expenditure for an average family in the Philippines is like 200/day...so do the Maths and you'll realize it'll last you about 6 months even longer....

Gary
Well, first. TaTa is mathematically challenged. 2 thousand american dollars is more like 94,674 pesos at the current exchange rate.

In a farming village without housing costs, you can figure the money will last around 6 months or even longer depending on how well you budget your money. My fiancee and her family of 10 get by on about 300 american dollars per month and they live in a small barangay in samar. The $300 covers food, schooling, electricity and cable tv too.

Depends really on what you are planning on doing while here! If you are going to be going out all the time then chances are not too long, but if you watch what you spend you might get 3 or 4 months out of it.

CDOguide
According to a Tourism study, a foreigner basically spends around 200 US Dollars a day in the Philippines.

A typical provincial Filipino worker (in urban areas) earns around 125 US Dollars a month (1 US Dollar = 48 Pesos). Some even earn less especially in farming villages. So if you live the simple Filipino lifestyle, 2,000 US Dollars will get you around 16 months.

If you are lucky enough to find your extended family that's not materialistic, that amount is enough for your desired months of stay. But IF your extended family ask you to "buy me this and buy me that or like that, that one in a very sweet manner", better bring with you your credit card. If you won't resist the temptations of pleasing them, your money will last for 2 - 3 weeks.
Anyway, just take care and hope you will enjoy your stay here.
GOD BLESS YOUR TRIP!

Jak o lantern
it can last you like 106000 pesos. it can last you like 9 months to a year just don't get to any trouble and don't give money to anyone.

It depends on how you spend it but when my beau & I were travelling to some of the islands in the Philippines last year for 40 days we spent around 2,300 Euros (this includes foods, drinks during nightlife, accomodations, li'l souvenirs, travel fares, etc. excluding the airfare).
If you're going to spend it alone maybe it will last until a month or even more. Cheers! (--,)

bout a month if you budget

sweetie

A farming village in Iloilo?
Let's put it this way...
2000 dollars will get you...

- 6000 bottles of beer from the convenience store
- 1500 beers at a bar in Manila
- 3600 burgers (with cheese)
- 180 full meals at TGIF
- 112 lower bracket prostitutes (approximately)
- 92000 text messages
- 138 speeding ticket bribes (Manila police rate)
- 60000 pan de sals at the local bakery
- 200 compact discs (original)
- 1285 compact discs (pirated)
- 92000 one peso coins

you can get by for very little in the Phils. A jeepney ride is only about 15 centavos. The current exchange rate is fairly good, so this is about 35 cents American. This will take you all the way across town. Taxi is about three dollars to get around a good sized city or town. You can take a Trike for somewhere in between. Food is cheap if you don't go to fancy restaurants. It should last you about 4 months. Remember, the average wage in the Phils is 100 dollars US for a family. You can live very well for those four months.
