Safe enough to bring you home unscathed... |

i guess it is safe. according to someone i know who works for the airline, the cost includes the fact that their planes land in a better airport. and as regards to safety, i suppose it is safe. i know a flight steward who has been with them for the past 8 years, and yes, he is still alive and flying! so i suppose they are safe.
but then again, after flying pal and the "others" as you may call them, i did not see much difference except the food (pal's is not so exceptional and if it is a short trip, i wouldn't mind having my meal in the terra firma) and the airport (which, for me makes the whole difference! consider comfort and style). |

pal is a save airline but they have to many delays and the bathroom get dirty by the end of the flight. the flight attendees do not clean them at all. Your best best is to fly Cathy pacific which is one of the best air line in the world and its the same price. |

Philippine airlines fleet is comprised of modern up to date aircraft, mainly the Airbus range. Most of their aircraft are on lease. PAL has extremely good service facilities. I researched it before the Internet really took over.
International and main routes the aircraft are well up to date.
I have flown PAL eighteen times international from Gatwick and Heathrow, to Philippines, and was booked when they went bankrupt in 1998. Since when there have been no international flights on that route, In addition I have flown internal flights with them on about fifty occasions to date.
My personal observations are:
That the planes are well maintained. If not I wouldn't fly on them.
The criticism that PAL stands for - Plane Always Late is I'm afraid fairly justified.
On the long haul non-stop flights, there was a shortage of food, but I and my wife we carried a few snacks with us.
The staff and crew I found to be polite, helpful and friendly.
From 1993 to 1998 many improvements were made, the Cebu express being one, totaly brilliant.
The transfer of luggage on the return journey, full international as well from Cebu to Manila, to NAIA.
The new facility PAL only, at NAIA is excellent, and now it's a straight transfer.
On the occasion we had a medical emergency, PAL upon receipt of a letter from the hospital, re-booked our flights at no cost to ourselves.
In short I found PAL to be good value for money, and no problem at all except for delays, the planes are safe and well maintained. I just love all varieties of the Airbus as well.
The above are my experiences of PAL. |

It's ok it's very safe. For a working class it's ok you get good services, it's better in Pal flights. Cathay is good too but expensive unless your willing to pay for it. Singapore air is the best. But in my experience never ride on a plane made in China, you now..Like China air? My friend had one incident with China air because their landing was delayed because the hatch for the landing gear did not open so they have to stay in air for almost 1 hour until they got the wheels out. |

Yes, they have very competent pilots and I never heard any accidents involving their aircraft for more than a decade now. |

Pal seems to be either in bankruptcy or heading towards bankruptcy . What does that tell you about adequate funds for maintenance, overhauls and total quality management. Unfortunately there is little true oversight as we know it on any industry and family ties, school relationships and down right economic "favors " abound.
There is a web site that tracks safety in the number of crashes . I could be wrong but I think Pal has a relatively bad safety record vis a vis miles flown . |

Not too bad. Never on time. More comfortable with Cathay Paific or Singapore from that part of the world. Singapore is probably the best airline in the world. |

I took a flight from Manila to Cebu on one of the little planes in their fleet. I was amazed with the service. They actually fed us a delicious lunch in a flight lasting little more than an hour. At the time, they had one of the best safety records in the world. And talk about secure airports, they have machine gun armed military men crawling all over the place. |

I travel all over the world and fly many airlines. I can say unequivocally, Philippine Airlines ( PAL ) is the worst in the world. They are never on time, the staff is rude, and if you have any scheduling or ticket problems, it is your problem, not theirs. Ask any seasoned traveler what is the best airline in the world and a half dozen will be mentioned. Ask them what the worst airline is and it will be unanimous, PAL !
I do not know why you feel they are cheap. If you will check prices, you will find other airlines that are cheaper. If you will email me with specifics of your travel plans, I will recommend site for you to purchase tickets and make travel reservations.
I live in the Philippines and I hope you have a fun and pleasant adventure here. |

It's as safe as any other airline. You never know your fate so no one can tell what happens in life. You can be in a top of the line plane and still have problems with it. Or you can be lucky and be in a decrepit plane but still survive.
In all seriousness, Philippines Airlines is a great airline. |

Well all I can say is that my past flights with Philippines Airlines was fun and nice. They even have this service where you can apply for free. It is called Mabuhay Miles. You can earn pinots in your every flight with Philippine Airlines or Air Philippines then when you arrive at some point you can convert the pints to ac ticket, depending where are you going if it more farther then its gonna be more expensive but you can earn more points and it will be take more points to get a ticket going to that place. |

I guess it's pretty safe, but you may have local problems at the airport. Any Filipinos or Filipinas want to answer this? (I don't think so.) |

I have not flown PAL but the people that I know that have flown it swear they will never fly it again.
My favorite is EVA or China Airlines. I can take either out of Seattle when I fly there. |

The BAD and GOOD...
BAD stuff:
Always delays... (there is a famous phase on PAL's delays. "PAL Always Late")
Not so good faciliies...
Just got off from 1998 bankruptcy...
GOOD stuff:
Generous on food...
Delays for safety...
Smooth take-offs and landings...
Safe airplanes... (very few recent crashes. most crashes during the early times.)
So... What do you think now? |
