ask if the maid wanna lodge a complaint. and offer if you are willing to substantiate her claim...

you cant hit her back but you can also choose to be a difficult customer...

I'd tell the lady boss off (take advantage of "customers' always right"!!) and boycott the restaurant. And tell everyone I know to boycott the restaurant too.
Whatever the maid's wrong was, I still don't think it warranted physical assault on her being. The boss could opt to tick her off and teach her again, send her back to the agency if she's incompetent or for serious wrongs like stealing, she could report to the police.

Why deal with the lady boss ? attention should be with the victim. Have pity on the maid. Make friends with her, talk to her-reach out to her....help her make a complaint...a police report, the labour department ? That will make the l lady boss lose face....

advise her and tell her that she can be charged for abusing her employee...

Make police report right away. Do not waste your time argue with such a barbarian. Dont forget the press. Turning heat on her will make her realise the public dont tolerate such violence response to anger.

Let her know in clear, intelligible language that such management conduct is not acceptable, and that it will hurt her business.

Make a public scene without being more irrational than her to the effect of making her look bad in front of customers.

Do not give her a chance to talk back, and state that is all she needs to know.

Embarass her beyond imagination with reason; and she will feel the repurcussion coming.

This is illegal.
There are a few things you need to do:
1. get one of your friends to lodge a complaint
2. if the maid also wants to lodge a complaint one of your friends needs to substantiate it as it occured in front of them.
3. you can also contact your health department and ask them what can be done.

I'll convince all the customer to stand witness for the brutal treatment of the lady boss to her maid. Then, I'll tell the lady boss that her maid will sue her and us as the witnesses or just pay the maid her last paycheck & the amount of damagges she'd done to her and terminate her.

Then, I'll rehire the maid. I got no maid in the house and I'm looking for one!
