dont worry... if ur a cali girl, I'm pretty sure you can brave the Manila heat! |

Do your research kid, there are no landslides in Manila... it only happens in the provinces and I bet your mother will not take you there. Plus, it is not VERY hot in Manila, you might want to try the desert for that. I have lived in Manila for more than 17 years and now I have been living in Los Angeles for 5 years and all I can say is, Manila weather is similar to an average summer California day, only year-round. There have been very, very. very rare cases of anyone getting heat exhausted or "over heated" in Manila... just look at those foreigners whose GENES have evolved to survive in cold countries but did well, what more for a Cali girl who have filipino blood?
The only advice I can tell you, if you should go there, the Filipinos, at least those who grew up there, are very nice people and it would surprise you to find that they are nicer, funnier, and more outgoing than the people in California... only, don't over act because WE filipinos tend to resent people like that. It is rare for a filipino kid to be bratty or overacting...
Also, it's weird how when you said "she hasn't seen her family in a long time" about your mother. Sounds like somebody here doesn't think she has family in the Philippines... Filipinos love their relatives and especially admire those from America, so I hope you don't disappoint them by showing or complaining aloud about your "discomforts" because if you are planning to do so, just tell your mom you're having a seizure and she can fly to Manila by herself to see HER family.
I feel terrible about this question of yours because American born filipinos or those raised here criticize their own country worse than foreigners. It sucks. What's worse, they often emphasize that they are not Filipinos since they were born in America. Sad. |

i've been to India for 3 hot seasons. After a certain amount of heat, my body can't tell a difference (105F feels as miserable as 120F). Just avoid caffeine and hot beverages-- it will make you sweat more. And wear loose, flowy clothing and undershirts to absorb sweat. and drink lots of water, of course.
Try to think of your trip as an adventure. Landslides and terror attacks can happen ANYWHERE.
Also, tell your mom of your concerns. She can get her (your) family to help make you more comfortable. When you get there, just try to have fun.
Also, if you are going to be in Manila, I'm sure there are cafes with AC or movie theaters you can go to escape the heat. |

you should not worry too much. you would enjoy your visit there. you will be treated like a princess by your relatives and there are lots to do in manila. the temperature is not that hot and most establishments like malls are air-conditioned. |

the Philippines only has 2 seasons, dry and wet seasons
now it's the rainy season so you shouldn't have to worry about overheating, you should worry about the flooding that usually accompanies the rainy season
the landslides rarely occur and only in those steep areas in the provinces, these are usually due to the excessive rain
you shouldn't really worry about going to the Philippines, you'll be with your mom, she'll take care of you
and by the way, you shouldn't act that way towards your and your mom's homeland. I know that you're feeling weary about going to a country that has been branded as a "3rd world country" but it's not an excuse for your overreaction. (no offense meant) |

Goodness, even if you don't go, you still could die in your precious Cali. You're just being over-dramatic, and the Philippines is NOT that hot. Gah, just make the experience a positive one. |

The phillipines is a wonderful place and I spent Two years there. I am from Utah. The heat isn't really that bad compared to Cali ( i grew up in the central valley) It's just more humid.
If I were you I'd enjoy the experience. THe food is great, the people are wonderful and it's just all around a great experience. If you get a chance see if your mom will take you up to the Banaue rice Terraces up in Ifugao Province. Beautiful. |

kudos to reruns! galing mo kapatid!
if u don't feel like going then don't. but you'll sure be missing a lot! i tried living in the US and i'm not being biased or anything, but there's nothing like the Philippines. the weather is perfect, the views are great (esp the beaches, best in the world), and the people are genuinely friendly. we even have better and bigger malls than in the US.
news of riots and stuff are pretty much exaggerated than what's really happening. you'll be surprise! and i'm sure you're relatives will protect you and will make sure you're visit will be enjoyable. people are weirder and more dangerous in the US.
and besides, if you're gonna go there and act like a brat, i would suggest. . . PLEASE, PLEASE DON'T! WE DON'T NEED YOU HERE! |

Noooo you should not go to Philippines...It's very dangerous out there...Heard about the landslides, terrorism, and it's very humid too....Ever heard of over heated cases as well? You cannot survive I'm pretty sure...
Yeah you are a CALI GIRL and a Cali Girl is not supposed to go to any third world country huh? You don't have to care whether your mom haven't seen HER family in such a long time, it doesn't matter, does it? So why give a fu(k? You are not Filipino anyways, you're American...Plus Philippines don't like "anak ni juan dela cruz" who are oa...Yan ang madalas makidnap sa Mindanao...Ay oo nga pala, You are a Cali Girl, not a Manila girl...
Happykitty, you're right...It's not sad when these ignorant people don't acknowledge their heritage, it's tragic. I live here in AZ and it's hotter than $hi+... well less humid nga lang kesa Pinas...Sarap dagukan neto...para bang malulusaw siya sa init ng araw sa Pinas. |

The Philippines ain't that bad y'know =) don't have to be terrified about anything.. and if you can't bear the heat.. just stay inside the malls =) lotsa cheap stuff here too! |

nope. the weather's not bad. its just the rainy season. landfalls seldom happen and it happens only in far off provinces. metro manila is very urban. the heat wont kill you. malls, restos, most homes, and even schools have air conditioning units.
and dont you think your moms family is yours, too? you are probably born in the united states but this is an opportunity for you to acknowledge if not, at least, get a glimpse of your roots. we in the philippines, value close family ties. im positive you will feel very much loved and protected during your stay.
do not be terrified. danger only operates under two principles:
a) it happens if you call it upon yourself by being unruly, and b) it can snap at you anytime, anyplace. so brave up young lady and harness that strong filipino side of you. if you will only see yourself as a cali girl, then that is all you will ever be.
i have a strong feeling you will eventually go. have a safe journey. try the food, savor the sights, and enjoy every minute of it. |

Youre scared. You should be. I lived there as a missionary kid and Im telling you it sucks. I was 12-16 years old. It was horrible and I hated every minute of it. Just make sure your passport is always with you and DO NOT give any money to ANYONE. Wear skirts to keep cool, no shorts. Use an umbrella to keep the sun off. That is ok there. |

oh man dont be scared to go there the philippines is so amazingly beautiful...waterfalls everywhere! everything is SUPER cheap...a few hundred bucks and youd own half the country...it is hot though...one of the only air conditioned places is the movie theater...you pay for one ticket but you can stay all day long...youll walk into the theater and theres just people sleeping in the hallways...i recommend going it was one of the best vacations i ever went on ...so amazing there |

lol, I went there. And yeah, Im a cali girl too. But It's really hot here too isnt it??And if you stay with someone to prottect you, you wont get hurt by someone. But yeah, its really humid there, but I spent most of my times in the mall with my cousins, since, you know, filipinoss have so many.... but you shuouldnt be scared... you wont get over heated if you stay more inside. you wont be outside all the time. But if you dont want to go, just tell her what you fear and either she will try her best to protect you, or she'll let you stay. |

is it the weather your afraid of or the "Philippines" it looks like somebody does not have any idea at all what the Philippines is.
My sister is in California and i asked her about the weather and she said that during day time it's really hot but at night it's really cold. about the landfall don't worry unless your relatives live in the mountains or provinces.
Be adventurous as you said your a Cali girl not a manila girl.
para mo na ring sinabi na walang utak ang mga Cali girl dahil wala kang alam sa pilipinas. Filipino ka pa man din....Duh! |

dont be afraid of the heat , it is rainy season now in manila, so you will not overheat in manila but you will swept by the floods, joke only |

You have every reason to be fearful. Rape and robbery are everyday occurrences in the Philippines. As these crimes mostly go unreported the rapist and thieves have free run of the country.
Right now the heat and humidity is unbearably. The air pollution puts everyone at risk for lung infections.
I think your mother will be shocked at how bad the conditions are in the Philippines. Do not assume that you are safe anywhere. many taxi drivers are thieves and rapists. Also there are many thieves and rapists in the malls. And in the movies. |

Get over your fears, go there and have the time of your life, the Philippines are totally awesome, and the people and sights will totally amaze you:) |

alrighty then, try to go here in the Middle East.
and also
ask your mom to translate this in English
"ANG HINDI MARUNONG
LUMINGON SA PINANGGALINGAN,
AY HINDI MAKAKARATING
SA PAROROONAN"
BTW
Philippines is a nice country, not too hot, not too cold, rainy through out the year though, lots of beautiful people with the friendliest smile and the beaches are AWESOME!
one of the best climate in the planet,
it was only ruined by crooked politician, the media & too much freedom
Filipinos are one of the nicest people in the world.
GOOD LUCK. |

Living in AMerica is more dangerous than living in the Philippines, Philippines is the only Christian country in the world and one thing if one country have a fear from God then go on..Philippines have 7,101 islands and where can u find the 3rd deepest sea in the world, if you will not go to Philippines then you will miss it in your whole life. |
