The best way is to close your eyes and remind yourself of great time you had. Memories are blessing thing..It allows us to always enjoy the good times in our life. I miss many moment in my travelling days and happy just to think about it and looking forward to the next one.
Once you can replaced it with meterials around you..you might lose your motivations of coming to Thailand for real again. :) |

There's a Thai grocery somewhere in London name Tawan, you can get anything there, but expensive. Asides from that, there are about 80 Thai restaurant in London and greater area alone. If you’re Thai and being a Thai student, there’s a Thai student association name Samakki. Locate the Thai Embassy, consular section, or the student section call Kor Por (don’t know the name in English).
All in all, Thais in England are not anything like Thais in Thailand. If you’re Thai student, get you bud together and finish the course and come back. If you’re not, save up you money and come for a visit. Otherwise, start liking where you are right now so as not to waste the time in your life. |

Hi Poppy!!
I'm in a similar situation, but with Japan..I just miss the country so much and am constantly thinking about Japanese food, people, places I'd love to go to ..etc etc!!
My top 6 ideas that have worked for me!
1) Buy some Thai language books and get learning!! Seriously, engrossing yourself in the Thai language will get you really involved and will hugely benefit your next journey out to Thailand :)
2) Go on youtube and watch some Thai music videos and general videos on Thailand..There's one band I've seen on youtube which features my favourite Japanese singer Yamapi and two guys from Thailand..They're called GYM and the song is 'Fever and Future'
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LpTdCQOCmsA
3) Have a look on ebay and amazon for Thai dramas..preview them on youtube and try and find a few you like..make sure they have english subtitles though! The benefits are that you can learn about modern Thai culture, view images of the country and learn the language in a fun way!
4) Start planning a dream trip to Thailand! Looking into the different areas and things to do will keep you motivated to keep learning the language and to keep you constantly looking forward to travelling out there again!
5) Find a Thai penpal/someone online that you can generally chat to and practice the language with!
6) Find some Thai recipies and get cooking some tasty Thai food!!!
I'm actually going to Thailand for christmas this year..going to Koh Samui and Koh Phangan..very excited but i bet I'll get the blues when I return to the UK!
I hope some of my ideas have helped..and I hope you get to go back to Thailand soon!!
Thank you..

I suggest you get involved in the activities of one of the Thai Temples (Wats) in the UK. They are dotted around all over the place, with quite large centers in Wimbledon, and Birmingham (Wat Sangathan).
You'll get to meet lots of Thai's living in the UK, including students, restaurant owners and workers, business people, and of course Thai spouses. They are all very friendly and you will soon find out about the best places to find Thai food, goods, and entertainment. |

I'm in the same boat. After living there for a while, my boring suburb in a boring big US city just doesn't cut it for me :(
These books are really good:
http://www.amazon.com/Travelers-Tales-Thailand-True-Stories/dp/1885211759/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1217686651&sr=8-12
http://www.amazon.com/Dream-Thousand-Lives-Sojourn-Thailand/dp/158005062X/ref=pd_sim_b_1
Also, learn to cook! I tried a bunch of different Thai recipes that I found doing google searches, and most are fairly easy. Then I decided I need lessons. I just asked the guy that works at the local Thai joint if the cook could teach me, and he said yes! He comes to my house and I just pay him in cash.

Ebay has a few good stores where you can buy small things for around the house like silk pillow covers and wooden knick-knacks. You can just search on ebay.
Visiting any asian market is fun, too. There usually is a few Thai goods. You can but one of those big fan brooms, they work a lot better than than western kind.
Hope I helped! |

Look at these really fast. Heathrow to Bangkok to hotel. Out to Nana Plaza for some beer and company (Go back and forth between 11 and 12 for more beer, sorry the girl doesn't change but she still smiles). Back to the Hotel, next day to Chatuchak market back to the hotel and your flight back to Heathrow and unpack. Enjoy

Hi Poppy:
Put fish sauce and chilli flakes on everything (including fruit).
Wear those lovely bamboo thongs
If you miss Bangkok, buy a durian fruit, let it go off (not that you'd know the difference), jam it somewhere unreachable (down the sink might work nicely), ask the council to open up the sewers in your street, and bring along a few stray dogs while they're at it...ah, smells like Bangkok already.
Pop down to the pharmacy and buy a mister such as are used for asthma. Keep your house closed up and leave it on 24/7. Nice and humid.
Haggle with local shopkeepers: ask them how much something is, and then suggest to pay ten percent of what they ask. When they decline pretend to walk out, waiting for them to run after you.
Get a taxi driver to take you to your destination via a jeweller and a tailor.
Have a foot massage, and pay the house the equivalent of 60 baht, then tip your massuse twice that amount.
Drink soft drink out of a plastic bag with a straw in it
Ask a rather beautiful male friend to dress in exquisite drag and entertain you with naughty stories, dancing and perhaps a trick or two with a ping-pong ball.
Wear yellow on Mondays
Convince complete strangers that random things are good luck. "1000 baht note, is good luck!" "ah, lizard, is good luck!" "yes, lucky lion statue, is good luck!"
Buy a little buddha statue and make sure you give him a little bit of each of your meals (I kept seeing Buddha with full bottles of Fanta though, so I'm not sure he's keen on the old orange softie)
Hope this helps!!!!!!!! |
