I am an Indian residing in Hong Kong. So I am slightly aware of the China's Economy and at the same time well informed with India's Development.

It is true that India still has more than 30% of population below poverty line. But India's middle class is getting stronger now. People have tendency to spend money and that generates employment and income to middle class. Before ten years, the gap between rich and poor class people was huge. Now it has reduced significantly.

Apart from this, India has achieved a remarkable growth in IT and telecommunication sector. As far as infrastructure is concerned, I will say India is still far behind.

======================================...

On the other hand, China has achieved a rapid growth in past 10 to 12 years. When we compare China with India, China is step ahead. It will be of no surprise if China emerges as next super power in the world after USA. But for that, China needs to change their certain policies. Excessive government control reduces the speed of growth. On this level, China has to watch out India.

And there are always poor people in each corner of the world. So if you see a bunch of them, you can't say that country is not developed.

no matter where you go, there's always rich and poor people. city like shanghai is trendy and have the tallest building in asia (i think) but there's also another part of shanghai where it is totally opposite in which it is dirty and so on. is like a yin and yang thing. anyway i like china for their amazing history...i always enjoy the history of xian and also the forbidden city

i think China is one of the fastest growing countries in the world econonomically,and the people have more material things.. the people are very friendly and helpful if you show a little bit of respect for them.. and chinese girls and women are among the most beautiful and lind women on earth. by the way i am an american,and i have many chinese chat friends:)

China has great potential as country. The Chinese people have a strong spirit. However, they also have some big problems barring their further development. Mainly it is their government and their anti-democratic culture. In China, everyone has one's place and you are supposed to accept it. You are not judged by what you can do or who you are individually, rather you are judge more on who you know and what your family background is. Also, the Chinese don't give a darn about the public good. They care very much about the welfare of their friends and family, much more than Westerners, but they couldn't give a darn about the general well being of others in their society, despite the fact that their standard of living is rapidly getting better and better.

Their government is another huge problem. Its communist leanings make it impossible for them to develop in ways other than just "doing business." That's the problem with China today. Chinese people think that being civilized is the same as being rich and successful in business. However, in reality, they are two seperate issues. Civility has never had anything to do with financial success.

china is a vast country ... but the real differences is because of communisam in chaina every thing is highly oriented where in india for democracy nothing is targeted .....

According to Devil Driver, you have to be an Indian from India? How come your words have replaced with ****? What did you try to say? I have to agree with Lulu, she's right. Just curiously asking, what did you eat that was Chinese food tasted like ****? I really like to know so I won't be running into that dish.

India before its economy started to developed was poorer that China. Even now mainly the east coast of China is very developed. But the government tries to help the inner regions by giving them huge funds ( Chengdu for instance ). If you go to xinjiang province, you'll find also poor persons. Even in Xianggang / Hong-Kong I saw some.

I am now in Nanjing, Jiangsu and I really like it. China has a lot of attracting points ( food, tourism, cheap life for foreigners ) BUT also repulsing points ( pollution, Chinese don't know how to drive, it's dirty, no manners ).

It's been 2 years sonce I'm in China and won't leave it for now.

China has really developed, lots of beautiful places. But people still need to be disciplined. Most people just throw trashes everywhere they want to, spit in public places if they want to, even inside the buses, supermarkets and buildings. They just doesn't care. They want to learn english but most english movies are dubbed in chinese. Some of the people should also learn how to say excuse me and sorry...They really doesn't care!!!! I've seen some houses, I don't think they are cleaning, or maybe they are just used to dirtly surroundings. They want to converse in english to improve their english but most of them don't want to read english books or magazines, and maybe just a few english magazines are available or none at all. There are a lot of foreigners in China, and so hard to communicate with the locals. I think the economy will improve more if people will start improving. And I only make friends to few locals, cause I really can't trust them, specially the girls..They will flirt with foreigners cause they think foreigners has a lot of money and maybe wanted to go out of this place. Even if front of me, girls would flirt with my husband...nasty...
