hotels such as Shangri-la, manila hotel, intercontinental hotel, nikko hotel are in Makati which is a safe and tourist friendly city which generally costs more than other hotels in any other city in Manila.
Check out hotels in Quezon City which is alot cheaper though not as clean as Makati but just as safe so long you practice good tourist manners you'll be fine. |

It would be better if you said what part of Manila you wanted to stay in. Different parts are cheaper than others and travel sites aren't so good at giving you the areas, Manila is a very big city and very slow to get around in. |

I asked exactly the same question last week. Someone gave me a really good answer and referred me to these websites. Here you can find reaally cheap places to stay at.

These are really the ultimate budget accommodations in Manila. But if you have up to $100 to spare anyway, check this one out:
www.clickthecity.com
There you can find hotels between $60-100. These are really good ones if you're willing to settle with this price range.
Good luck! |

I've stayed at the Kabayan Hotel on a number of different occasions. It's clean, friendly, and secure with a pleasant dining room. Average price: $47. It's near to Philtraco bus station, MRT(light railway) and has good access to the airport.
The address is:
2878 Zamora St., Rotonda Pasay City, Manila, Luzon, Philippines
You can check out tripadvisor.com which has some good tourist information there.
Also, the best site I have come across for a downloadable map of Manila (it is split into numbered sections) can be found at tonkatali.org
Good luck with your trip.
Ps My wife is from the Philippines. We are in the UK but our hearts lie there too! |

Hotels have different rates for tourists and locals. Local Rates are cheaper for almost 50%. If you have some Filipino friends, ask them to book under there name. If your a filipino, with filipino passport you can avail of the local rates. |

What part of Manila?
The hotels are not cheap because the rooms are great. You will not regret of what you've paid for. Cheap ones are the motels already which you won't find appealing. The lowest rate that has a great room you can find is about 85 dollars. 30 to 45 minutes from the airport (slight traffic included). Richmonde hotel is famous for a not so expensive 'smaller' room with great service... who cares you'll be out of your room most of the day. |
