With a little effort, you can find one, but if you can't speak Japanese your choices will be limited. Contrary to your belief, most Japanese women are not dreaming about getting an "average" American.

Depends on how strong you are. Be sure you check on local culture habits before you start fooling around with a Japanese girl. We don't want any ugly Americans over there. The rest of the women, I guess you will just take your chances.

The "average American" will not be able to pick up any woman. Japan is not a poor nation destroyed by war where the women are desperate to find a way to leave the country. It's a wealthy nation where people can live quite comfortably. They have no need to throw themselves at foreigners, and the "average Japanese" will not want you just because you're an American.

Some Japanese people (both men and women) may actually avoid you, because they don't want to be embarrassed trying to speak your language. Being foreign does not necessarily make you more attractive in Japan.

The stereotypes of Asian females being easy comes from the American military. During WWII (Japan), the Korean War (Korea), and the Vietnam War (Vietnam) soldiers would sleep with the native women, who often did hope to get out of their countries or to earn money to support their families. They then gained this reputation of being easy however, it actually speaks more about the American military than the Asian women, I think.

First, your odds are not going to be much different than it would be in the States. You would strike out just as much as you would here if the circumstances were the same..that is just common sense. However, once you start figuring in things like language, cultural differences (many Japanese girls don't like aggressive men..and most American men are very aggressive ..and not violent, just very forward..when pursuing a women they are attracted to by Japanese standards), feelings towards foreigners and personality issues, it would in all likley hood be much harder to pick up a Japanese girl. Of course, there are many women in Japan who find foreign men attractive, just as many American men are attracted to Japanese girls. Even then, most American men are not informed of the cultural differences in dating and casual relationships in Japan. If you are a nice guy, willing to invest time in getting through the issues above you could do ok. To just try and take someone home for a night...well, that could be a lot tougher than it may be in the States.
