The day Singapore merge with Malaysia will be the day I emigrate to other countries. Singaporeans and Malaysians are not on the same frequency and it would hard for both to accept each other.
Note that Lee KY's view does not represent the view of the majority of Singaporeans and he had been wrong on many occasions. We bear with his nonsense because we just want to live an ordinary life like many other ordinary citizens of other countries. |

Honestly, I don't really care. You can trust me on one thing: they will never merge.
Singapore is like a patient on a life support, so Malaysia wouldn't benefit much but Singapore would. They would lose their sovereignty, however. Singapore is kept alive by Western powers and Japan to buffer the influence of SE Asian countries, especially Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand. Another reason to keep Singapore alive is that Malaysia and Indonesia have been repetitively hostile towards the West, Thailand less though but isn't very friendly either.
Most of Western businesses in SE Asia are run from Singapore, so it's quite important to keep it alive. Since Singapore is nothing without Western investment it will not risk to lose the backbone of its economy, and Westerners would largely pull out if Singapore merged with Malaysia.
Teddy, I'm still trying to figure out which mindset is 20 years ahead, human rights issues in Singapore are the worst among developed countries, they still have a lot to learn from the West. |

Wait till 2012 (if those so-called doomsday prophecies) come and let's watch Malaysia and Singapore gets wiped out of the face of this earth... and we'll ALL start a new world together, shall we?
Its only about 5 years to go... let's be prepared and be patient... LOL

On the reality side, Malaysians would probably disagree... We're talking about two different mindsets here... One is 20 years ahead and the other is 20 years behind and still going back... so, go figure! |

I understand that both countries have some fairly strict laws, but Malaysia suppresses some civil liberties that Singaporeans might value. At the moment, I don't think it would be a good idea. |

Why do you think Singapore, or rather, Mr. KY Lee wants to merge with Malaysia again?
Think, think.....way too different, mindset-wise....think......

Keep on dreaming....Why ? There's so many things that have to be straightened out before it will happen and it's not going to be easy. It could even burst out into a war because not everbody will agree to it. Why did the Tunku gave away Singapore to Lee Kuan Yew...go read the history. |

It's too late, both countries have developed their own identity and it will be very difficult to unite again. It will give more harm than good
So no need to merge and Malaysia got nothing to lose |

I wouldn't care much, but Singapore might. There's no logical sense that they would want to share their hard working wealth with Malaysia, especially when the government tend to use it for ridiculous purposes like flying the first muslim to space or a high tech public toilet. |

It all depend on the t&c small print.
If it is base on mutual understand & equal status, it would be a win win situation. |

Hm.. who bring up the issue in the 1st place all the while?
its Singaporean Seniour Prime Minister, Mr. Lee Kuan Yew..
by looking at this we know who are eager to join Malaysian ? either us or them? tell me.. what do some people refer as 3rd world mindset or 1st world mindset..
is it the Kiasu thing consider as 1st world mindset or is it the Singapore low rating press fredom consider 1st world mindset.
There's a reason why Mr. Lee is urging this suggestion. there must be a reason since he's the founder of singapore. he's looking singapore cannot keep up their neighbours pace for the next 10 years..
So as a Malaysian. I Totally disagree with the merge.. & to tell you the truth most of malaysian Politician & cabinet member are laughing on the whole idea. |

I won't object. But I don't think it will happen. |

no I'm strongly disagree...
coz Singapore is a country without natural resources..they can be more develop than us but they have to work hard to maintain their status. while we have millions of natural resources that we believe not everybody can share this resources...to Singaporeans ...you may live with ur big cars but stay in a small apartments...and to all Malaysians we grow our own food, we have land to stay, we have more relax environment, we have a great society and please dont ruin it. |

Although from naked eyes, Singapore do look better than Malaysia but in long run, Singapore is too small to expand thus needed space, population /talents which will make them need us more than we need them. So i cant answer your Q on behalf of them. |

for good things i support
for bad things reject...but now still got a bad things without Singapore ...huh |

Better don't. 1st world and 3rd world can't sit down and talk peacefully due to 3rd world's mindset.

Kiasu = afraid to lose = want to win, is that very bad?!
Low press freedom, yes this is condemned by the world, definitely not 1st world mindset. Are we anyway better? What are we better than them in terms of mindset?
Mr. Lee had layed down certain conditions for the merger (please read the press). :-
1. Treat every race equally
2. Be as advance as S'pore
These conditions can never be achieved especially the no 1. If you can read between the lines, he is ridiculing us rather than he actually wants it to happen. Why would a 1st world country wants to merger with a third world country? S'pore has moved from zero (primitive) to hero (1st world) now, what makes you think they can't keep up the pace with us?! It is we who are still in the catogery of 3rd world country, should be worry about keeping up pace with them.
That is no shame admitting that we are not as good as them. They are the 1st world country and we are third. This is the fact. Admit our weakness, improve on it and work hard for it is the first step for us to fly. If we keep on blinding our eyes from our weaknesses and support it with excuses, where will we go? |
