Messing up the things, are you?
US never categorically stated that Taiwan is part of China. This is for the Taiwanese people to decide, and they are dead against the chinese claim on Taiwan. |

Who says there selling them to Taiwan. If Taiwan is part of China then the USA is selling them to China. |

Well, in actuality US doesnt recognize the 1-china thing.
Us recognizes any small states that wants to give the middle finger to an oppresive regime a la USSR.
US arms Taiwan so that if China ever thinks about invading, it will be a big bloody mess, and china will be 100% to blame.
US has China by the balls with the Taiwan thing.
Besides all that, F-16 are rapidly becoming outdated and US needs to offload these toits allies. |

Because US wants to make money. Who doesn't? Business is business and besides, Taiwan would never invade US so why not? You will not see US sell F16 to Iran or even Iraq, do you? |

Coz if the Chinese fight among themselve. Then US will gain from it. On top of that, US has already earned from selling the F16 now... |

The United States does not recognize Taiwan as part of China.
At the same time the United States does not recognize Taiwan as a sovereign independent nation.
The Taiwan Relations Act states that the US should "provide" and/or "make available" the appropriate weapons for Taiwan's defense.
However, since neither Taiwan nor the Republic of China are sovereign nations, the maintenance of an "ROC Ministry of National Defense" Taiwanese soil and military conscription over native Taiwanese people are both illegal under international law.
Hence, all sales of military hardware to Taiwan should cease. The national defense needs of Taiwan should be provided for directly by the Pentagon, by stationing the necessary US troops in Taiwan. |

Purely commercial trade between two parties. US like it or not need to look after its commerical businesses. |

The U.S. "acknowledges", not recognizes, Taiwan as part of China. According to the Taiwan Relations Act between U.S. and Taiwan, the U.S. can sell weapons to Taiwan for self-defense purpose.
The U.S. arms sales has nothing to do with democracy. We have been selling weapons to dictators as long as they serve our interests. We get rid of them, such as Sadam and Noriega, if they go against us. |

The USA doesn't recognized that.
It is just that we have a stronger trading relationship with China. |

Its because US needs money !!! US government is in need of lots of money in all sorts of things. US is a business minded country which need lots of money to sustain. US is facing lots of deficit and can still survive because of its export, or else the US cannot make it to the survivor stage. Anyway, US doesn't recognized Taiwan as a part of China. They said it because they do not want to strains ties with China and loose their saying in UN cause of unrecognizing Taiwan as a part of China. They have no choice but to do that, I feel sorry for their situation, I can say. |

The US doesn't recognize Taiwan as part of China. We recognize Taiwan as it's own sovereign state.
We sell them arms to defend themselves from Mainland China, and we keep an eye on things over there, like when China fires missiles over Taiwan as part of "tests," they know that we're going to fight alongside Taiwan in case Mainland China invades them.
But the reason is that we DO recognize them as their own nation. |

F-16s are very old planes in design, first built in 1976! And, while there are many different up grades to the airplane, the Taiwanese are getting the C models.
Anyway, they sell the same plane to 33 other countries, including our buddies in Pakistan.
The US is in a lot of need of exports, they would probably sell them to the ROC also. But, China is not so stupid to buy outdated airplanes? They can manufacture their own and those would be much better. Yes, they build MIGs here! |
