There is only one God, just with different names. Different religions thus different names for God.

But I don't think we can unite into one religion because we have different beliefs.

Just like the saying goes, ask 100 people and get 100 answers, think how many people there are in the world and that's why there are so many different religions.

Answering from a Christian viewpoint, those who have religions other than Christianity have not heard or believed the good news - that the promised Messiah in the Old Testament of the Holy Bible has come upon us. Furthermore, God created humans to have the capacity of rational thought, even to the point of coming up w/ ridiculous beliefs that include an unbelief in Him. It does not seem humanly possible for us to be united into just one religion but with God, nothing is impossible. Let us wait and hope and pray...

Because of the many interpretations that individuals have of the bible. Different views, different analysis, different theories and of course, different interests which, therefore, divided the people. And they call it "belief" or for some, "faith". And people can not be united, even in the name of God, because of these differences. There is no unity in sight for all of us with the present system of things.

Great question.

It's a question that I have asked many people over the years.

It is logical and common sense to suggest that indeed there is only ONE GOD, and we are all made up from the SAME STUFF, then we truly are ONE with each other .. i.e. we are all brothers and sisters living out our lives together here on Earth.

Yet something so simple and logical is proving to be impossible to achieve. For some reason, mankind is hellbent on judging each other by our differences and our various beliefs.

We can walk on the moon yet we cannot live in harmony with each other.

Unity is the answer, yet it seems so far out of reach. We are incredibly intelligent, yet massively dumb and immature at the same time.

We have no true leaders in this world .. just money hungry power merchants who want to control and dominate the world.

So maybe the short answer to your question is Ego, Greed, Immaturity, Insecurity, Neandertholism ... meh .. the list is endless really.

every person is unique, each has its own criteria to choose what he would believe in, and generally, most choose a religion which is convenient for them or one that gives them their material wants.
unite in one religion is like catching air with our bare hands.
even people of the same religion can' t unite with each other.
but we of different religion can live in harmony.As what is experienced in Singapore.....unity in diversity.

If you're talking about Christianity, then each religion has different beliefs and meanings.

It will never unite, as peoples opinions and different beliefs are just too... different. They drive each other to war.

If you think about it, there are only two possibilities. One that there is a God and two there is no God.

And men throughout recorded history who believed that there is a God made different religions as a way for them to reach up to God.

Can we unite ourselves into one religion, I don't think so because of reasons too many to get into.

But this one I can tell you--there is one "religion" if you can call it by that label, that tell us that we do not need to reach up to God but instead it tells us that God reached down to us humans. And that is God the Father of Jesus of Nazareth and I am not talking about any religion here nor of the Catholic Church but just the faith in the teachings of the Christ. Now it is just up to each of us to believe or not to believe.

Each preacher has to have a church and attract a congregation. So we appeal to our group by getting all our dirty political, social, child-rearing ideas out on the table and try reforming them. Religion is actually our sideline so we can call it (our religion) anything we want (see above).
And the congregation does have a valorous motto, goes, "Our small church has a grip. So we won't tithe but will (for now) only TIP
