Dancing Queen Noa

Is INDONESIA a GOOD country or BAD country? What do you think about this unique NATION actually?

I heard that Indonesia is celebrating her independence day now. Congratulation Indonesia!!
In the other hand, I notice that this country is infamous by her unbelieavable corruption... one of the most corrupt nation on earth! Oh My...

Tell me then, what else do you know about this Indonesia?

I'm kinda interested in Indonesia -especially Bali- since my friend told me that girls in Bali are beautiful and hell great dancers! I'm also a dancer and if I got the opportunity, I want to visit Bali someday... LOL!!

Oh well, what should I say? I'm an Indonesian. I'm proud of my country but I'm also so ashamed of the people who run the country.
Yup, it's true that Indonesia is a corrupt country.
Indonesia is a rich country with a lot of mines (gold, oil, coals, etc) and also rich of natural sources (spices, fishes, etc). But we also have a lot of debts, because the people who run the country (read: the government) take the advantages for themselves, and let the Indonesian people suffer cuz of poverty. The corruption is unbelievably disgusting, from the lower workers (read: people who has no power at all) til the central of the government. They all wanna get bribery. So when you have money, Indonesia will be a heaven for you. Cuz you can get everything you want. You even can buy the law!

But on the other hand, Indonesia is a very beautiful country with many unique cultures. This is what I'm proud of. Also the people there are generally nice and friendly. Especially the people from Bali. I have to say that they are different from the other Indonesians. Because as you know, Bali is a tourist destination, many foreigners come and live there. So the Balinese are more 'open minded' than the others. They are more international.
And there are LOTS more of beautiful places in Indonesia, and more beautiful than Bali. But yeah, Bali is the most famous.

So back to your question, Is Indonesia a good or a bad country? Well, I have to say that Indonesia is a beautiful bad country! (for the other Indonesians who read this, dun take this personally if you are not agree with me, I'm juz being honest!)

Indonesia could be a REAL heaven for the foreigners who wanna live, or work, or juz wanna make holidays there, also good for the investors. Everything is so cheap and the Indonesians are also nice and friendly.
Indonesia is a bad country only for the Indonesian people themselves. And for the foreigners, Indonesia is juz a beautiful country!

Politically Indonesia is a mess, but it's getting better since Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono became the president. Corruption is indeed a big problem in Indonesia, unfortunately.
However, Indonesia is a beautiful country with beautiful people and cultures.
I go to Indonesia once a year and hope to move there for the rest of my life some day. Despite the corruption in the government, the people are the friendliest and most wonderful I have met anywhere.

I love my country.. good and bad is just relative...but when it comes to the people Indonesian is a trendy, fashionitas and very hippy.. I will choose Indonesia for a night life party.. I experience KL and Singapore but both of them just not that happening like in Indonesia.

I can say Indonesian is really nice place to visit and have fun.. u will not regret

Well, it depends on how you view it.
Some things over there are bad, but some things are also good. I believe it should balances out in the end.
I believe every country has its own good and bad side.

If you're thinking of Bali as a vacation place, yes it's a good place. They do have a lot of dancing and I know most of the girls learn how to dance when they're really young.
But if you're thinking about dancing, Bali isn't the only one with great dancers. Every province and every island in Indonesia has its own dancing style and it's worth to explore them.

Labels like "good" and "bad" don't really apply to the people and their culture. It's easy to mistake the government for the country.

Indonesia is in my part of the world (Southeast Asia). Like them, my country, the Philippines has a bad rep when it comes to corruption in government. Most of it is justified. Some of it is exagerated by the Western press.

Still, I seriously doubt it would have any bearing on the beauty of our beaches, the richness of our heritage, and the warmth of our people.

I love Bali, most aussie's love bali, but good and bad well it's everywhere

I recently spent 2 weeks in Ubud, Bali and LOVED it. The people are warm and generous. They are so hospitable and kind. I did not have one bad experience. And I still keep in touch w/a number of amazing people I met there.

In fact, here's a little story about something that hppnd to my friend while we were there.... I was in bali w/a group of friends and we were living in bungalows. My friend Chris decided to move to a hotel where his brother was staying. He hopped in a cab and got so immersed in a wonderful conversation w/the cab driver that he wound up leaving his luggage in the cab! He realized this after the cab had driven away. (this was the 2nd time, ironically, that he lost his luggage)

so he had the hotel track down the cab company. And the hotel set him up with another cab to find this guy with his bags. They went through a series of streets finally finding the company... but the people there said the cab driver had gone home. So they gave Chris directions to his village. Once in the village, he depended on teh kindness of the balinese "strangers" to track down this guy's house. So they directed him to the cab driver's house and found his family, who told chris that he'd realized chris had forgotten his luggage and drove all the way back to the hotel to drop it off.

...So, I guess what i'm trying to say, is that while I have heard the the gov is corrupt, that doesn't necessarily translate to all the balinese people.

I recommend reading Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert. She details her travels across Italy, India and Indonesia. It's a really fun read all around, but the section about Indonesia gives a really great perspective on the culture. Most of her tales are of a postive nature.... but she also explores what could be the seedy side of this magnificent world.

There is no such thing as bad or good country for it only implies your bigotry to that nation. If you say that Indonesia is a bad country then you are also saying that her good citizens who are hoping to revive their nation are also bad.On the other hand, if you say that it is a good country, then you are contradicting some facts like corruption. Your question is very vague and takes a big scope. And that is not a good question for it does not have any benefits at all for anybody instead, enraging the wrath of her citizens. So please be tactful in choosing your words for it might cause some chaos in this world. Remember Indonesia has the most number of Moslems and it is not good to criticize them. What if you were born in that country? Do you think it doesn't affect you about the impressions of the others?

I lived there for 2 years, i have to say..yes, it is a politically corrupt country, almost everyone is smoking even students who just went out the school and still within the school gates are already having a puff. They are warfreaks, one time i was going home from school, i was in the car on the HIGHWAY.. about a hundred people were throwing rocks with each other all because of the soccer game. but, talking about bali, its a really nice place.. a lot of things to do, party all night long, cheap stuffs and yes there are a lot of great dancers. There are other islands near bali which are really lovely. Wanna go wild?.. try going to komodo island. : ) all in all, its a good country with really bad driving skills. haha!

There is no such thing as good or bad country, its a lovely country to visit, they used to have good places to go for holidays. Corruption....is every where, its just how bad it is. After the recent tsunami, they are really paying a huge KARMA for what is happening to their country. Congratulation Indonesia for their independence day today. Pray that for what is happening to them earthquake after another, the people of Indonesia should realise what mistake they might have done, the innocent people is dying due to that.
Inspite of all that Indonesia is a lovely country to visit, both my parent are from Sumatra Barat.

Yes you're right. Maybe Indonesia politic's in mess. But as Indonesian people I love Indonesia. Bali is a very wonderful island. I did learn Bali Traditional Dance, when I was kid. When you visited Bali, make sure you saw the Kecak dance at Uluwatu. And if you're interest in it, try to saw the Barong show also. And try Balinese country coffee. If you visit Sanur beach you can see many squirrels around. But Kuta Beach is also popular. Try The Dome that's infront of Mall Galeria...
