Taiwan has never been ruled by communist China. Chinese visitors have to apply for visas before allowing entrance to Taiwan.

Taiwan is an independent country. Taiwan is a democratic country. China is a communist country. Taiwanese people enjoy the freedom of speech and Chinese people don't.

Taiwan is a peace loving country. China killed its own people in Tien An Mien Square.

No matter what anyone says, It is a Historical fact that the PRC has NEVER had any jurisdiction over the ROC i.e. Taiwan, Matsu, Kinmen and Penghu - EVER.

Taiwan is the island which has for all practical purposes been independent for half a century but which China regards as a part of its territory that must be re-united with the mainland.

I don't know which of the answers is the most inane, or the most disrespectful to someone who asks a legitimate question.

China claims that Taiwan is part of China. Taiwan is a de facto nation, with its own currency, armed forces, passports, laws, and government.

Very few countries recognize Taiwan as a nation, because they want to stay on China's good side.

Anyone who thinks that the USA will get sucked into a war with China, over Taiwan, is mistaken.

If China ever invaded us, it would be like Nazi Germany invading Poland. Despite the bravery and determination of the Polish armed forces, the result was a foregone conclusion. An invasion of Taiwan would be over within days if not hours, and the international community would be presented with a fait accompli.

It depends on who you ask.

If you ask the Taiwan, they would say that they are their own country.

If you ask mainland China, they would say they are a rougue province.

No. Actually there are no direct flight between China and Taiwan, except Hong kong Special Administrative Region.
At the Chinese airport, the gate for Taiwanese is different from local Chinese. And it is very difficult for Chinese to enter Taiwan.
The governments and policies are different.

Taiwan is the "unsinkable aircraft carrier" that benefited the US during the Vietnam War and no, China ceded any control of Taiwan to Japan in 1895. Look up the Treaty of Shimonoseki.

There are many differences between the two countries. Taiwan is a democratically elected government, China is still a Communist country where people cannot vote or have their say. The people in Hong Kong can vote, but everyone knows the chosen leader of Hong Kong is the one favored by the party cadre in Beijing.

Taiwan and China have different governments, different militaries, different health care systems, different currencies and even a different spoken language. Also, in Taiwan Chinese is written in traditional, whereas writing in China is written in simplified form.

Actually Taiwan is owned by Hello Kitty and 7-11. If you want something done go there. I swear to god its true! We all pay our bills at 7-11 and worship Hello Kitty! The real 'government' is just the daily soap opera we use to entertain ourselves.

Back to the dysfunctional family analysis my pompous friend above uses: Taiwan and China are alot like one of Britney Spears 24 hour wedding's. They were briefly joined for a short time and then got separated. Its just China refuses to sign the divorce papers but insists on hitting its wife every time they get together to talk about signing divorce papers. Thus Taiwan is trying to change its name and get a restraining order from its dear, abusive husband. The neighbors all owe the husband money currently and don't care to get involved but secretly support the beaten abused wife. Probably the only way this sad affair will end is with guns....

Unless a certain idiotic bully of a country realizes its every comment about controlling Taiwan causes it to lose face internationally and does the responsible thing and signs the agreement. They can then choose to take a BIG step for credibility and probably even get rewarded for it by the rest of the world. But I wouldn't know anything about that kind of stuff.

I dont believe so but i do know that just like we do to countries when taiwan does somthing china doesnt like they stop giving them aid. So its almost like china is in control of taiwan.

LISTEN, Taiwan was never named "FAMOSA", you illiterate. It is funny how you skipped over 300 years from 1624 to WWII. Are you trying to pretend that Taiwan was ruled by the Dutch from 1624 to WWII? Get an education, you terrorist fool. The Dutch had only a few years of ruling over Taiwan, before the Chinese conquered it. So, for over 300 years up to WWII, Taiwan was IN FACT ruled by China. And after WWII, Taiwan was again returned to China via the San Francisco Treaty. Also, before the Dutch in the 1600s, Taiwan had always been a Chinese territory. So all of these so-called "many countries that ruled Taiwan" were just a blip in the entire course of the history of Taiwan ruled by the Chinese.

Look up the San Francisco Treaty, which nullified all prior treaties on Taiwan, including the Shimonoseki Treaty. Get an education, fool!
