I have to disagree. I have met very good people in this section and they are indeed smart in their own rights.

And besides, if one is lonely...they reject any company whether it be in the physical or cyber sense. They are busy creating their imaginary barbican for satisfaction.

If one insists though, well....we may all be lonely after all. But tell you, I am one very happy and very outgoing lonely person. You may need to worry.

Well...lets try this. Why dont you worry about your lonely life and let others be happy with what they do in their little place and their little jail called YAP?

I dont quite understand what kind of 'civilization' you are referring to, but I am quite adapted to the one I am in. Are you?

Well, you could call it that. But it's more than that. It's also a hive of information. Hey, it has helped me a couple of times when I needed something. But yeah, it is a hangout for bored and lonely people...

NOPE.. like what smile said. Yap is a place to Ask, Answer and Discover. It is a place where you can share your knowledge and know many things. honestly, Y!answers helped me a lot. i think this is also the only thing me and my best friend Choco Crunchies have in common!!!

bored,lonely,curious,inquisitive,know it all,need to be noticed etc,I expect there's almost as many reasons as there are yapers,for me i'm an american and i'm trying to learn something of the philippine culture,laws,rules etc and also some of the former reasons

YAP is a place where Filipinos in every part of the world meet and have a good time together. It's like chatting but only in a 'mysterious' level.

It's a place for gossip (typical Pinoy past time), and having fun... gee!

this may be a "prison" but it sure is better than to be with lot of people hanging with you during your leisure time but have no sense being with, then, it would be better to be alone than with bad company.
before, we used to chat with people or do research work personally as far as we need to but you just can't have what you need until the invention of the internet. You can chat with someone at the other end of this world and be aware of many things at hand. It's like being in multiple location at the same time. Business, socializing, tracking someone can all be done in just one sitting. We can be lonely and we can be with lots of people all at the same time.

I live in the outside world too!
I have husband, dogs, friends and family that I talk and mingle with everyday too.
Just here at YAP hanging out (multi-tasking) while waiting for IM replies from friends abroad.
I also like the idea that I can ask my questions here and give back as well. Overall, I think it's fun!

Being lonely doesn't only mean "without any other person nearby." It may also mean a state of mind.
Just like the paradox,"Alone but not lonely." A person is indeed without company but he doesn't feel he is alone.

I admit I am a shy person. Joining in YAP or Yahoo answers in general is my own way of expressing my ideas and viewpoints. And maybe as well as socializing to other people.

Turning back to your question, my answer would be 'I really don't know.' I cannot speak for other people. They have their own reasons why they joined yahoo answers. That's why we cannot immediately jump into conclusions.
Apart from it I enjoy being part of the yahoo answers community. And I don't feel lonely even if I'm alone.

I think it is, it is for all people of varied interests. of people who are willing to share knowledge, for people to gain it. For so many, many others out there who find this site interesting, in anyway they find it.

I do come here often, but I dont consider myself as a lonely person, and I've managed to know a handful of "seemingly" happy and "positively charged" people in here.

To answer your Q: maybe..maybe not..and if it really was - I dont really mind yapping with them :D
