No, Japan is still a conservative nation, and homosexuality is not looked upon favorably. There is a major difference between laughing at the flamboyant "queer" characters on TV and accepting homosexuals.
Generally, Japanese would rather not discuss it in a serious manner.
Japanese homosexuals don't have a strong voice, BUT marriage rights do not appear to be one of their main concerns, so I'd say Japan is far from legalizing gay marriage. |

Homosexuality is not uncommon in Japan, but gay marriage is not legal. Besides, nobody advocates legalization of gay marriage.
Personally, I have nothing against homosexuality, but I can hardly understand why gay people want to get married. That's really weird! |
