yes, foreigners are easy target. its because they stand out and you clearly are new to the place and are there for a vacation, which ultimately mean that you are loaded. however, if you'll just roam around the malls or other business and entertainment districts, then chances of kidnappings are very very low. the Philippines is still a country known for its hospitality and we are generally peace loving and tourist friendly. so no worries. just enjoy yourself. |

I assume its your first time visiting. If that is true, I highly advise you to have someone with you at all time. Travelling by yourself within the country can leave you open for a ripp off.
That could happen to anyone travelling in any country.
Travelling by yourself with a blank and lost stare in your face will draw vulchers your way. Filipino's are mixed with good and bad people just like anywhere in the world.
Your dad being filipino should've told you evrything about P.I.
Why come to Yahoo answers?
EDIT: Please take heed to the other testimonies here. They speak the truth about the way locals stare you down hard.
It happen to me. You might want to check yourself in the mirror to ensure you have a normal appearance. Good luck (smile) |

There is no safe place around the world today, the best thing to do is to follow the travel advisory just to make sure that you are safe. Avoid going places alone or better in Makati area.
Remember that Metro Manila are more safer place compare to New York, Brazil and South Africa. Explore your world to Boracay, Palawan, Cebu and Bohol. Abstain your trip to Mindanao area, where the current famous TV journalist has been kidnap. No worries have fun. |

This is the truth:
If you dress and act rich, you may be kidnapped
If you dress like the locals, jeans and tshirt/blouse, you won't
If you are a gorgeous mestiza, you may be raped
If you are a fugly mestiza (and face it, about half really are) nobody will come near you with a 10 foot pole, er I mean, you should be safe from rapists. |

this is such an idiotic question...will asians be sold as slaves in UK?
follow the same precautions you do at home. be courteous and cautious. don't go with people you don't trust. don;t go to seedy places. like anywhere in the world, your safety is in your hand. |

Ok I'll try to be as honest as possible in regards to your question. First I will say on the level its safe to go to the Philippines. At any given time of the year especially in December there are so many tourists, mostly white people who come to visit. The Philippines has a bad reputation of white people being kidnapped or killed and true it has happened to afew unfortunate souls in the past. But the philippines as of now is alot different.
Tourism is a big contributor the the economy and since the Philippines is very westernised most of the people are quiet friendly to tourists. Be prepared for some stares as since your half I imagine that you are somehwat very interesting to look at. In their eyes that will be the case anyway. If you stick to malls, public places with lots of people and don't go into places you shouldn't be in, then I have no doubt you will be fine. Just watch out for being over charged as most will try to.
Take it from someone who has been there many times, you will get to know how things are done there and I'm sure you'll enjoy your time there as many of the other hundreds of thousands of tourists do so. |

I have a cousin half filipino and half Australian. This is whats gonna happen when you go to Philippines : When you go to a mall people will keep on staring at you (if your tall and beautiful). When you go out with your family people will keep on staring at you. When you travel alone you might be kidnapped, snatched or killed (nah just joking about the killed). You should go to Cebu their are many foreigners their. Go to Shangrilla hotel its beautiful there. |

sometimes, i wonder about the mongrel dogs in the Philippines, they can roam freely and they are safe. But when it comes to dogs with breeds, they are mostly caged, always have their necks roped tagged along by their owners. they have no free will.
Average looking girls are more likely fortunate than good looking girls, I think. |

When you are a gorgious mestizo, rape will be more possible then kidnap.
When your dad is filipino he will know how to protect you, beside that you still will have family in the phils who will do that.
But you are more then welcome sertainly with a pocket full of money and a lot of warning mumbles, you will have a great time. Just keep money enough left for your backtrip and airport taxes, because even your own family can try to get your last penny. |
