Well, not yet... at least not for now.
Despite the boiling racial tension/polarization in Malaysia (to be exact, its only in areas like Penang, KL and JB), you can consider it 'safe' if you're street smart (yes, there's very little/limited public transportation and even if there ARE, it is poorly maintained and you'll find yourself crammed up like sardines... oh yeah, bring along your sparring vest and head gears... and perhaps a gas mask to battle your way into the public buses and trains).
If you're shopping in Chinese areas, always remember to ask for 'Chinese price'. I have no comments whatsoever further and I wish you good luck!
Oh yes, on another note... keep your kids under your armpits. That's the best way to keep them alive from pedophiles and sex maniacs. Its a growing trend these days, so bewarned!

Btw, please be informed, Malaysian 'law' prohibits dual citizenship...
***
SimpleGuy, your views are rather biased too. Injustice to Malaysia? What justice have Malaysia done to me in return, when my rights have been violated as a rightful citizen of this country and living among a mess of rapists, murderers, human smugglers, pedophiles, corrupted leaders and law enforcers. Moreover, you should be well aware that I know this for a fact because I live here, the very source of my knowledge itself ---experience, buddy...
Would you like me to post a list of links to prove my point? Are you aware of any current issues bogging down the face of Malaysia at the moment?
And what tourist are you referring to? Those that visited Malaysia 20 years ago? Sure, I don't blame you... it was a very different Malaysia back then. You probably haven't met tourists who sworn not to return to Malaysia ever again after their 'friendly' experiences over here bring mugged, raped, murdered, harassed (by citizens and police officers), abused and so forth...
Its an open place to discuss... and I was only making my point to remind potential tourists to BE CAREFUL and not that I'm trying to show 'injustice' towards this snakepit. Would you like to be responsible if this questioner is being cheated by taxi drivers? |

You just got to remember your street smart and instinct. Don’t take it as safe means totally safe and you let your guards down. Anyone can travel to any countries but you just got to bear for your own safety. I have enclosed the site from Bureau of Consular Affairs, U.S. Department of State, Australia Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade for your reference regarding Malaysia. The 3rd link is news reported that Malaysia crime rate was increase by 15.74% for the year of 2006. The last link is a news reporting Malaysians being target with criminals – robbed, carjacked at knifepoint and house broken into etc and how they felt about the crime rate. |

i have to agree with simpleguy. malaysia is indeed a safe place to spend your holiday in to the extent you will generally be free from life threatening danger. its people, really, dont go around killing its tourists nor do we set you up with tons of drugs in your backpack, and no we dont abduct tourists and make them our street beggars. i am sure you have heard of countries where these happened quite often. not that i know of in malaysia.
but that is not to say you wont be pick-pocketed or "bullied" into paying an unnecessarily high price for things you want to buy. it has happened to me several times when i visited a certain place regardless of how vigilant i was, and the chances are, with a tourist stamp on your forehead, you will have similar experience. if you considered this un-safe, then you can probably forget about traveling to asian countries which are dominated by chinese.
my advice is, pick places that dont have high crime rate (but everyone just have to go to kl nevertheless, so go) just be careful with thieves. and if you have a travel companion that would be better. dont forget you can always join tour group. and that will save you a lot of transportation hassles. |

I am not sure where Damien got his/her view about Malaysia. Nothing like that at all. I know many tourists that have had their best times in Malaysia.
Public transports are excellent, although peak hours maybe crowded, but not any worse than any other big cities.
Food is delicious, and Malaysia has so many things to see and do.
And no, you will not be kicked in the butt. I am not sure why you got such a perception of Malaysia.
I think the answer by Damien has done gross injustice to Malaysia. A rather biased observation I'd say. |

WOW such dramatic visions! Malaysia is very safe. Its people hospitable and the country is really lovely. Our hotels and comfort zones beat the best in the world We have the Hiltons; the Bolevards, the Hyatts; the Sheratons...and mind you the owner of ShangriLa worldwide is Malaysian.
This is Visit Malaysia Year - so a lot of bonuses. Visit us NOW and enjoy.
Frankly I think its safer here than New York, Los Angeles or San Fransisco...I also think Caucasians in general treat & discriminate Malaysians, Asians, Arabs, Asian-Aftrican in much worse ways. Take for example the way visas are processed! It almost always makes us feel not welcomed. I am a proud Malaysian and a Chinese at that! |

there are safe places and unsafe places every where in the world.Depends on where you go what type of people you hang out with. and What type of personality you are. If you are the kind that had one or two and run your mouth for no reason.... aha.. you know what I mean. Malaysia is a safe country to visit. I assured you that.
So.... just chill out... and have a safe visit. |

Dear African Warthog
You are bringing disrespect to the family line ... I will complain to my cousin, Running Pork about you ... maybe Mad Cow will spank your buttocks the next time he saw you for asking such question about Malaysia ....
If you really want action, I suggest you stay with the Abu Sayyaf ... of course you still need to pay for your lodgings and food in the jungle ... |

My friends were in Kuala Lumpur for a mere three-day,and they saw a pick-pocket RIGHT IN FRONT of them in the city. They no doubt were scared stiff and declared the place as a never-to-visit place. No doubt this country is beautiful with friendly people but fact is ,it's not as safe as few years back anymore.Face the truth and tell the truth.Lying and denying is not going to do the country any good. |
