Ofcourse not. Talent first before the looks whether pure locals or mixed blood Pinoys. I can count in my fingers the mixed blood Filipinos that are in the limelight. To be able to stay, they focus and develop their acting potentials as additional credentials. |

I wouldn’t say that it's easy... but I guess you will have more opportunity than the locals. You will have a plus because you speak better English, you would have more confidence, financial and influential advantage than the others. I feel you... They should discover local talents first... but Filipino now a days are very much influence by American culture... so they are very much fun of American Filipino like my mom who really admires Sam Milby =P |

It's a national fixation. You're halfer or you got some foreign blood in you and you don't look local, the people would usually love you for it.
Take it from a foreigner living in the Philippines. Some people think I'm so different because of the color of my skin and the shape of my eyes. They're not being racist, maybe just because back in Philippine History so many foreigners came here and it left an impression of superiority and power in their appearances. |

There is so much I can say about this but I don't want to be offensive toward the filipino's. Life itself is very unjust.
Black americans were treated unjustly for many years before the problem was solved. Many people died for that righteous cause. Hopefully God will fix the problems in the Philippines so EVERYONE can eat. Many people may have to die in fighting for this cause. |

most komikos are full blooded filipinos. the uglier (meaning, looking like a true native) they are, the funnier and more successful their careers. |

Yup. We're still stuck with the "white is beautiful" mentality even though most of these half-breeds and foreigners have as much talent as a doorknob.
What's interesting is that the most celebrated and best artists we have are not of mixed ancestry. T |

Well part of it, but if you dont have a talent, you gonna be screwed too.
People here likes mixed of white race so the appearance is the first step to the fame. Second is the talent. Third is how you gonna handle your boss properly and make them like you so they will spend money to promote you and advertise your name. Once publicity is done, make sure that everything with you is perfect bcoz people will start to judge you.
People here dont like much ordinary face - same type of face that they can see everyday. Poor people normally have ordinary type of face so they dont like it that much.

Like Big P said, you could go on forever trying to figure out why that is so. I simply think it's in our culture that to look more Western is a plus. Sad. Sad. Sad. Indeed. |

as long as you don't look like a native Filipino, you can get into show business... |

It is a very interesting point knowing there are a number of artists in the film industry who are sons and daughters of Filipinos with foreign connections by blood, affinity or affiliation. Whether they were able to lad roles in movies because of their talent or looks or a combination of the two remains to be known. But Filipinos audiences are known to favor faces who are fair skinned, no little brown noses, tall and with bourgeois sounding names. Nothing new there. |

I think you still need to have some talent. And, I'm not so sure it's as widespread as you imply. It just seems that way. |

i believe it's easy for a mixed Filipino to become a commercial model because their looks add a certain appeal in front of the camera. (screw talent. unless someone sings like Charice Pempengco, a Pinoy celeb has to look a certain way... unfortunately)
most celebrities had their start in TV ads. perhaps people with some Chinese or Spanish lineage are not as marketable as those who are half-Caucasian (but it really depends, some half-white people look ugly and a lot of "tisays", "chinitas", and "morenas" look really beautiful), what more those with a strictly Malay lineage? they're limited to comedians, rappers, and bit-part players.
the reality is that the ones behind the camera decide who to shoot/film. it has nothing to do with being poor. just as long as that person looks marketable (believe me, i've seen a lot of half-white but "poor" people who look pretty), they have a chance to be discovered for a photo shoot or a "VTR". |
