No.
An island is anyy piece of land that is completely surrounded by water in two dimensions, above high tide, and isolated from other significant landmasses.
An island country is a country that is wholly confined to an island, several islands, an island group or several island groups, and has no territory on the mainland of a continent.
Malaysia does not fit the criteria. So it is not an island |

Well I don't think I'll bother hitting Andy S' website(s) if I'm looking for information on Malaysia.
It seems to me that the standard of geographical knowledge in South East Asia is only marginally better than that in the United States. The number of times Thai people, for instance, asking me where I come from and getting the response "Kuala Lumpur" look puzzled and say "where's that?" is incredible.
You've already had the answer of course. Malaysia consists of West Malaysia, wherein lies Kuala Lumpur, which is a peninsula attached to Thailand, with several quite large islands and island groups (e.g. Langkawi) offshore; and East Malaysia which forms PART of the island of Borneo and wherein lie the states of Sarawak and Sabah, partially separated by the Kingdom of Brunei plus a number of offshore islands, and the Federal Territory of Labuan (which is indeed an island in its own right).
Oh, and Noman is an island... |

Yes and No. Malaysia is split into two. East Malaysia and West Malaysia. East Malaysia sits in Borneo Island where you can find state of Sabah and Sarawak. Also on the same island you will find Brunei Darussalam and Kalimantan of Indonesia.
West Malaysia is a peninsula. East and West Malaysia is seperated by the South China Sea. |
