malaysia is a nice place to go to. They have very nice food at very cheap price. Like dining at restaurant for very nice seafood and stuffs like that will cost you RM 50-100 ... There are many wonderful states. Eg: penang, kuantan, kl ( the capital ), johor, malacca ( historic place )...There are only airport in KL and somewhere near johor. So if you wanna travel to kuantan from K.L, it will take you 5hrs of car journey. It depends what kind of airline you take. For malaysia airline, you can check with MAS. Not too sure... But it's cheaper than other economic airline.

Malaysia is beautiful! I'd highly recommend a visit.

It would be cheaper to travel in September than August, as flight prices drop after the summer school holidays. It's also worth speaking to travel agents about a tailormade package including hotels and flights, as this can bring down the price of both considerably. The exchange rate is fantastic, though, so you'll find you can afford really wonderful hotels for a fraction of the price you'd pay in Europe or the USA.

There's plenty to do, no matter what takes your fancy. If you want to chill out on the beach, you could try Penang. It's quite touristy and busy, lots of nightlife, restaurants, food markets etc and big sky scraper hotels. You can also visit the Snake Temple, the Butterfly Farm or take the funi up Penang Hill for the views. The night markets are pretty impressive too.

However, I prefer Langkawi. It's a less touristy, quieter version of Penang. Fab beaches, and if you stay close to town - the Pelangi Beach, the Holiday Villas etc - there's more than enough to keep you entertained. For somewhere more special, look at The Datai or the Andaman. The island is absolutely stunning and there are hundreds of deserted islands dotting the area - you can take a day trip out to one of these and just chill - it's fab. Try Bon Ton for a really good meal - there's a nice bar there too. It's also worth taking a trip up the cable car - the views are fantastic!

I'd also recommend spending a couple of days in KL - the nightlife is great, as is the shopping. Try Bangsar for bars and restaurants and for the night market on Sundays, Heritage Row for cool bars and clubs. Zouk is the superclub and has international DJs pretty much all the time, although Velvet Underground on Wednesdays is 80's music (more my scene). China Town is great for shopping and knock offs, and Bukit Bintang is great for just shopping - there are loads of food markets in the area where you can try all the local delicacies. The Corus, Traders, Concorde and Federal hotels are all centrally located and pretty good value. For higher end accommodation look at The Regent, Mandarin Oriental or Ritz-Carlton.

If you fancy something a bit more adventurous, go to Borneo. There's so much to do, you'll find plenty to keep you busy. If you go to Sabah you can visit Sipidan, the best dive site in the world, or you can climb Mount Kinabalu, see turtles hatching, visit the Orang Utan sanctuaries or just chill on the beach.

If you go to Sarawak, you can see the Rainforest Music Festival, visit the Mulu Caves, take the cable car up Mount Santubong, chill on the beach at Damai, visit the Orang Utan sanctuaries or stay at a tribal longhouse, sipping tuak and hearing stories about head hunting days!

Oh, and I forgot to mention travel agents. Try Travelbag - they seem to have the best contracts with Malaysia Airlines for direct flights. Trailfinders are also worth a look. Both feature most of the hotels I mentioned, or they will be able to get prices on them.

I would highly recommend to go to Malaysia. It's amazing!!
We went last May and it was the best holiday we've ever had.
It wasn't too Westernised as Singapore is supposed to be.
We went to Kota Kinabalu first in Malaysian Borneo which was fairly remote. The tiny 'city centre' was very Asian. It did have a shopping centre or too but nothing like over in Kuala Lumpur. Yes they did have a Burger King but the shopping centre's public conviences weren't what we would call 'civilised'!
Yes Kuala Lumpur has a little westernisation to it as you would expect from any capital city with the designer shops etc but you definately got the impression you were in the Far East as the authentic Malaysian food and products were everywhere to be seen. Make a trip to Batu Caves if you're visiting Kuala Lumpur as it's amazing.
I would have visited again this year but circumstances wouldn't allow.
I'm sooo jealous you are visiting. Don't let anyone put you off as it's lack of knowledge that makes people stay away from beautiful countries.

Malaysia is an excellent destination as it combines both exciting city attractions and natural attractions such as beautiful beaches, wildlife and adventure. Also, Malaysia remains to be one of the cheapest and safest destinations for tourist in South East Asia. It gives you a glimpse of Asia with its myriad of culture from its people of different races. Malaysia would truly be a breathe of fresh air if you're from the UK, you'll be delighted just to be able to bask in the sun all day long.

Expect to pay between 400 - 500 pounds for a return flight. Visit Malaysia Year 2007 is aggresively promoted in the UK and most travel agencies are offering fantastic discounts and packages in conjunction with the event.

I'm British and live in Malaysia, I even married a Malaysian man.

I can give you any info you want and even put you up so long as you promise not to murder us in our beds! I can recommend a fantastic holiday and give you tips on language, money & not being ripped off! Email me! Tell me what your dream holiday involves and I'll guide you.

Look at REXAIR and AIR ASIA for good, reasonable flights. If you fly KLM they tend to be pricey. Range? Anywhere from 350-500pds! But cost of living here is DIRT CHEAP! FOR COMPARISON ONLY (not suggesting you eat them every day) but a HAPPY MEAL from McDs costs 1pd. You can 'survive' on local food with about75p per meal. If you want 'Western' food it's a bit more and alcohol costs the same as the UK.

:-)
PS VERY VERY IMPORTANT - FASTING MONTH this year is around Sept 14-Oct 14 and this means a lot of places to eat will be closed during daylight hours. Flights will also be more expensive as this is their equivalent to Xmas so a lot fly home to celebrate! It also means the locals tend toward lethargy and everywhere (except Chinese & Indian places) are very quiet and lifeless. but the breaking of fast is exciting.

Dear Elsie.
Yes , malaysia is nice but that was when it is 20 - 30 years ago.
Now it is not what it used to be.
Even i as a local do not dares to venture out in Kuala Lumpur alone.
It is no longer safe. Not only about muggers , pickpockets, touts, but the malaysian police!
Even walking alone at night in the city the police will stops one and will want to check everything!..at the end they will ask for a "fee"!.
I suggest you to visit Thailand or Singapore instead.
Anyway, i am going to Phuket Thailand for my holidays...just to get out of this &^%$ malaysia.
Good luck to you.

Yes of course Malaysia is nice! I am from Sabah and don't know much about the Peninsula but as mentioned above you might want to consider coming over to Sabah and Sarawak on Borneo, it is a totally different place. Culturally, historically and geographically we are rather different, a fact which does not often come through in official publicity materialso for Malaysia, which is more centred on the Peninsula. For Sabah I recommend http://www.sabahtravelguide.com

As for flights, I don't know the rates. The best is maybe to surf the internet to get an idea what is offered, and then see your local travel agency what they can offer you. Malaysia Airlines is not a bad airlines on international flights and they also offer a couple of packages which might interest you, such as flights and overnight at some 5-star resort at really good prices.

Happy Travelling!

I think it depends upon what you mean by 'nice'! I have spent much time there and thoroughly enjoyed it. It is a large country with many different attractions, ranging from the city of Kuala Lumpur to the coolness of the Cameron Highlands. You will find public transport to be good - though you may wish to hire a car. You will also find the people to be most friendly and cheerful. Although Singapore Island is not, strictly, part of Malaysia, you must - you really must! - take the opportunity to visit this 'Lion City'. There is, incidentally, a direct rail link between KL and Singapore.

As far as the cost of flying is concerned, the best informant is a travel agent. I can thoroughly recommend Malaysian Airlines.

Depend on who you going with, emirate is the cheapest but there is stop in dubai which not always convenient, you can get about £450 return. With Malaysia airways slightly more expensive could be £600-800 depend when you are going, but you can try package deal with travel agent if you need accomodation etc, which normally end up cheaper. Malaysia is nice but it can be very very hot in August.

Malaysia is a very nice place to visit, and this year is Visit Malaysia year .
Kuala Lumpur,Penang,Kuching ,Langkawi,Tioman are the places that is compulsary to go from my point of view.

The flight price from The UK would be around £400 -£600 depending which airlines. But the popular one is Qatar Airways as it is the cheapest, followed by Etihad airways and Emirates,It would be even cheaper if you fly from Heathrow.
I rely on e booker when booking my trip to Asia and usually do it 2-3 months in advance to get a good deal.
Have fun in Malaysia!

Malaysia is NICE, I agree... and it is indeed a great place for short holidays.

Malaysians on the other hand, it depends on who you meet. You should be very careful with who you meet and shouldn't be too trusty with strangers who are keen to offer personal 'services' and even while using taxis (there aren't much tourists in Malaysia compared other countries around the region so you should expect to be stared at).

Try having a companion with you while you're traveling around. Be careful of stalkers and rapists (if you're a woman). In case of any emergency or danger, its BEST to contact the nearest embassy (get their contacts prior to your visit).

Sure it is. I can bet on anything. I'm guessing the fee won't be too high since it's not the school holidays yet.

It used to be a super place in the sixties. Don't kmow what it is like nowadays. Much more developed and westernised I believe.
