No. Definitely not.

One marries a guy because first of all, there's LOVE(better life emotionally). Of course, it's a plus if she would have a better life financially. It is not prostitution because when you say that it is, that means she has been earning money by giving sex to men.

No, because then according to your logic, everyone who gets married to a guy would be a prostitute unless they were marrying him for a worse life, in which case they'd be an idiot.

The key concept in prostitution is promiscuity. Offering your services by the hour = prostitute. Offering your services for life = not a prostitute.

abfabmom1
Yes and no.

Generally, the traditional definition of prostitution involves a rotating door of men to pay you for your services.

Technically, if you only marry a man for his money, this would qualify, with the exception of the rotating door issue.

However, marrying a man for a better life is what most of us do...I certainly hope that our lives will improve by adding a committed relationship, and lifetime partnership into the mix. This is generally part of the concept of getting married!

Hmmm... <twiddles a captured santelmo with fingers> from reading these answers... <grabs the santelmo with hand> I would have to say <drains all mana energy from santelmo till it dies>... Yes.

BUT

only if the woman doesn't love the guy. I've seen it, time and again. I've read about it, time and again. I've heard about it, time and again. If a woman marries an old foreigner purely out of need for money and a 'better' life, then it is prostitution. The technicalities and definitions may differ, but the concept is THE SAME. It is the giving of a woman's dignity and self-respect for material gain. That is basically the whole concept of prostitution.

Your probably right in saying that we Filipinos know about it cuz it is, in fact, one of the main issues being caused by poverty in this country. In fact, every time I walk in the street or in a mall, I sometimes see old kanos with young girls dressed in an outfit only the Sex Bomb girls wud wear.

The very sight... <looks at you with bloodlust eyes> aggravates me...

A warning to all foreigners: If you're in my country just so you could lust after our poverty-stricken women. You shall, one day, face...<uses dead santelmo's mana to create a huge fireball> A FIERY RETRIBUTION ONLY GOD ALONE CAN SAVE YOU FROM!!!

P.S.
(In case u didn't understand something)

Dictionary:
santelmo - a filipino fireball spirit
kano - street term for American
Me - a guy who h8s foreigners that take advantage of his country and its people and may not really be a mad enchanter yet still has his ways of ensuring that Filipinos are treated with respect.

Technically speaking, it's not prostitution. Prostitution is defined as "the act or practice of engaging in sexual intercourse for money". Marrying someone in order to have a better life is not prostitution because couples are required to take care of each other once they enter matrimony. In this situation, it's more like a marriage of convenience.

Mr. Filam,

You continue to have fun raising filipino blood pressure with you questions.

We never know why people get married and It is no ones business why.

I think you need to pay more attention to what is going on in your life and stop looking into other peoples life.

Everyone will be judged according to their deeds at the end.
Good people will be victorious in due time.

I think you already know the answer or you would not be asking the question. It's real easy to take the moral high ground when you have the luxury of a full belly, decent housing and acess to health care. Things 3 of 4 of people here in the Philippines don't have.

People that have never been to the Philippines cannot begin to comprehend what it's like not to have those things or the opportunity to get them because simple things like "a job" are easy to get in America or other western nations. Jobs here are very hard to get and pay low. In America anyone can find a job if they are willing to work.

I was a sailor for 23 years. Most all of my "girlfriends' were prostitutes. Real easy to pass judgement on me when you have the opportunity to meet women and develop a relationship. I did not have the luxury of time to do so. I treated the girls well and reguarded it as a "business transaction". I knew what I would get and so did she. It was mutually agreeable and beneficial. Was it immoral ? Yes. Do I regret it ? Not at all. I was honest and upfront and didn't treat the women badly.

My sis in law married a Japanese guy well in his 50's when she was in her 20's to give "the family" a better life. She's gone now but gave the family a better life by sacrificing herself. I will never look down on her for that. Allot of good things happened because of her personal sacrifices.

Desperate times are cause for desperate measures. The only question in my mind is will you love this guy for what he has done for you and your family or look at it as he exploited you ? Maybe a little on each side but consider why you would be willing to do this. Love is not a requirement to marry. JMHO.

PS. I am not a Philippino. Just one honest American sailor that finally met and married a good asawa.

Since the beginning of time parents have arranged marriages in order to improve the standings of their family, country and or children. I doubt if anyone has ever thought of that as prostitution.

The majority of the marriages in India today are still arranged marriages and one of the priorities would certainly be if the parties involved will benifit from the marriage. Far less divorce and separation results when marriages are arranged than so call marriages of love which often turn out to be marriages of lust.

It appears to me you equate having a better life with money. Money has far less to do with a person living a better life than people think. Happiness, peace, contentment and joy are the keys to a better life. Poor and rich people can marry each other and the poor one can contribute as much or more to making their lifes better than the rich one.

In my opinion only a foolish person enters a contract which they believe does more harm than good for them. Who wants to marry a fool. To marry for a better life is not prostitution. To marry for a better life with no intent to do your part to make the life of your partner better is prostitution.

why would someone sacrifice his/her whole life for that reason? if you can find someone whom you are in love and rich at the same time, will that material aspect hinder you from marrying that person? know first the meaning of prostitution before you ask this question. is the word "love" an unknown thing for you?

hi, sir film. marriage is a business transaction. so as it happens, prostitution is the oldest profession in the world of business. a dime, sir? thank you po!

I understand your question clearly because I'm from the USA and been living in Venezuela for 14 years. The women here are looking for a better life as well. Over the years I've met several women who would love to get married just for the easy street. In my case and maybe in yours, the physical attraction is what got me and the love came later. These days, true love is hard to find so we make ourselves happy with physical attraction and there is nothing wrong with that in my book as long as your both happy an attracted to each other for years to come. So my answer is NO to prostitution

Is marrying a woman for cooking, sex, children, hanging on your arm when you go out, considered prostitution? There is nothing wrong with getting married for a better life if it is intended that the marriage is (for real) and not just a stepping stone to another country, a richer guy (or woman). If you know what she wants and she knows what you want and you both agree to get it from or give it to each other in order that you both have a better life as husband and wife, I see no problem with that.
Even though I am American, I am married to a Filipina and live in the Philippines so I hope my answer helps.

I am assuming that most of yall believe that prostitution is a bad word. Women, in general, as well as some men, have it in their being to marry up(financially). The good ole USA has screwed everything up with its welfare, section 8 housing, etc etc. USA women, as many men are spoiled rotten. If you would take away all the usa Govts fringe benefits for women, they would spread there legs alot quicker then the girls of some of these third world countries. American women dont need a man anymore, they have uncle sam. More power to those who do what it takes to survive.
