Is philipino considered asain?

Show all answers

Inday
NO, philipino is not asain.

BUT, Filipinos (the good people of the Philippines) are considered Asians because we are part of the continent of Asia.

Thanks for asking.

Comrade
Hey, caljoe015! I'm glad you're inquiring about Filipinos from Filipinos themselves, and not reaching conclusions from racist outsiders. Yes, Filipinos are entirely Asian, anthropologically and culturally. The first Filipinos were descendants of tribes from Southeast Asia as well as from the present-day island of Taiwan and mainland China. Culture-wise, if you do ever visit the Philippines, you will find that Filipinos are uniquely Asian and Westerners.

No, your question is not racist. It pains me that Filipinos are withdrawing from this question rather than patiently answering it if they're so confident in the truthfulness of their answer.

I frequently post on this issue on my blog at http://aldrichanderson.blogspot.com Here's an excerpt from the latest post (06/03/07):

- 40% of the Philippine population have Chinese genes
- Prehistoric evidences attest to the fact that many datus and rajahs (native rulers) in the Philippines were of mixed Filipino and Chinese ancestry.
- Look it up on any atlas or encyclopedia. The majority of the Pacific Islands are thousands of miles from the Philippines. Simply because they share the same geographical characteristics of being an island, does not necessarily make then socially and culturally alike! Japan, Taiwan, Singapore, parts of Malaysia, and Indonesia are islands, too! Who would daresay the Japanese are Pacific Islanders, too? Absurdity.
- Filipinos in the Philippines are taught that they are Asian. That's a fact.

http://aldrichanderson.blogspot.com/2007/06/filipino-identity-re-examined.html

In conclusion: Beware of racists who, because of some unknown reason (perhaps feelings of jealousy), label Filipinos as Pacific Islanders or whatever label they've conjured. Ignore certain Filipino youth also who are ignorant of their culture.

Hope that helps!

is a filipino considered an asian?

yes, technically they are.

but if one is to look at them closely, the typical filipino
might be more american than some americans
(almost all of the country's signs and ads are in english & they read, watch & listen to all the latest american books, films, tv shows, stage plays, concerts & music)

most enjoy hispanic telenovelas (& speak basic spanish)

most speak a second, a third & even a fourth language (or dialect)

most is of mixed descent

& most filipinos would be at home in los angeles, new york, san francisco, tokyo, london, hawaii, singapore, hong kong & some other major city than in another city they havent been to in the philippines

so if you are to ask me, they are just that... filipinos (a breed of their own)

♥Sakura
Absolutely...
=)

I hope you already have a clear idea of your question,

Philippines is the name of the country and Filipinos (you got it misspelled) are the people living in it, and yes we are asians or pacific islanders, I think there´s not much of a difference.
