It depend where you going to ? if you intend to spend your money on luxury everyday( mean eating in fancy restaurant ,party in hi-end club , shopping branded items etc) $1000 i don't think is enough , but if you spend your money moderate , it more than enough.
there a lot of local restaurant serving nice food which is less expensive , some clubs are also not expensive, some massage palour around are less expensive too.
I mostly spent around $500 - $700 a week for my trip in Bangkok. |

Hard to say as you didn't give us enough info.
Does the $1000 include hotels and all meals and sight seeing? If you also have to pay for the hotel, then it is NOT enough - unless you are willing to go backpackers style accommodation and eat really really cheap.
Also. you said "Thailand" and NOT Bangkok. Does that mean you want to see many part of the country? IF yes - then $1000 is Definitely NOT enough.
Give us what you plan to do and we might give you a better idea about $1000
Cheers |

$ 1,000 should be plenty.
That's what the average monthly income for a teacher is in Thailand.
You can find accommodation between 300 Baht or about
$ 10 up to hundreds of dollars.
If you eat Thai food Thai style...you can eat a bowl of good soup for under 1 dollar.
So really it's up to you how you want to spend the week.
I would have a hard time trying to spend a $ 100.00 a day.
IMHO it is a lot more fun to live like a Thai with the Thais. |

You can have a very cheap holiday in Thailand, especially if you go to one of the beaches and stay in cheap bungalows or similar. My daughter enjoyed Koh Chang so much she returned for a second holiday.
You can stay for about $7 a day in some places.Meals are generally cheap if you eat from local stalls, or buy fruit etc locally.
So $1,000 should give you a very nice holiday week in Thailand. |

Ive recently been to Thailand. It's a beautiful place, of refined citizens and their rich culture is seen almost everywhere. I really enjoyed Thailand. In some ways, its familiar to Malaysia.
If you're saying American Dollar 1000, I would say not really, because if you want to live in a hotel, it would already be around 6000 baht a night. Which is around $230 US dollars.
On top of that, usually in a day, I would spend about 2500 baht.
I hope this helped.
Have a nice trip!

How much you spend is up to you! I suppose that there are some travelers who could use up the $1000 in one or two nights. For me, $1000 would last at least 15 days for sure.
If you keep your hotel expenses down to around 1000 baht per night (or less) you can do pretty good. You can find hotels in the 600 baht range that will have air, hot water, private toilet/showers, TV, maid service and safety box. So, it is up to you!
Food courts are in many malls, there are either food courts or lunch counters in several supermarkets (Foodland on Sukhumvit Soi 5 is well known) and some Tops supermarkets have small food courts or lunch counters. Of course there are lots of McDonalds, Burger Kings, KFC's all around too. Street food is real cheap! If you don't know what to order you can hardly go wrong with fried rice!

If you get a hotel in the Sukhumvit area you can walk to many places or use the Skytrain to get around town.

Transportation is pretty cheap, there is the Skytrain rapid transit system, city bus travel is cheap and if you take a meter taxi (and only pay the meter charge) the taxi fare is reasonable. Meter taxi rides (when only paying the meter charge) are cheaper than tuk-tuks.

When I travel around Thailand, I go really cheap.
I can get my modest accommodation, brekky, lunch, dinner, couple of beers and sometimes a hire motorbike for around $50 per day or less at times.
One week is not really long enough to make a lot of train and coach journeys, so I reckon with a $1000 you could have a great time.
It depends how comfortable you want to be.
Enjoy your trip. |

1000 excluding the flight? I don't know where you're from though. If you don't mind staying in cheap places, like Guest houses or very very cheap hotels, you could easily do it. Food is quite cheap and still delicious in Thailand. Only the taxi/skytrain/etc could be more expensive. I think you should be able to to go thailand for a week with 1000$. |

Heinrich,
1000 USD is enough to vacation in Thailand for one week, sometimes even including airfare as you will be able to book packages from the US and Europe that are priced around this magic number...
It all really depends on what you consider to have a nice time. If you plan ahead, you will be able to stay in five star hotels for around 60 usd throughout thailand, leaving you enough money to spend elsewhere.
Apart from getting there and sleeping, you'll have to eat, too...Fine Dining might quickly add up with many restaurants charging around 1000 to 2000 THB for the food alone. If you wanna have a drink or wine, that will be about double. As another answer suggested, eating like the Thai's is the way to go and you will be able to enjoy that kind of dining for definately less then 10 USD a day.
Let us know more or ask more questions so that you can get a more specific answer... :-)
Happy Travels,

My son's there right now.He had two weeks in Pattaya and is now doing two in Koh Samui. He reckons you can live on $30 a day no problem so $1000 is more than enough. |

I spent 18 days in Thailand and I think I spent around $1500 total. Granted I stayed in hostels and wasn't over doing it on food and such. I even bought a bunch of things when I was out there at the market in Bangkok. Its really cheap if you stay at the hostels, I think I paid around $5-10 a night and the food was dirt cheap. It was about 60 cents for pad thai out on the streets. I think the most I ever paid for a meal was about $5 and I was full. Again, I didn't go anywhere fancy, I basically just ate at the local places. You'll have a wonderful time!!!
Enjoy your self! |

The short answer is NO, unless you are prepared to slum it out and skimp on food and stuff. |

If you only stay in cheap, bug-infested hotels, and eat at McDonalds every day, and don't get scammed by Tuk-Tuk drivers and staff at the Emerald Bhudda/Palace in Bangkok, or get scammed by the Limousine Taxi personnel(yellow uniforms) at the airport(they charge 2 1/2 times the fare of a metered taxi, but they use an ordinary taxi; there isn't any more luxury than in a normal cab, even though you are paying for it).
And, as long as you don't get sucked in to certain attractions, which advertise the cost as being 1300 Baht, but when you arrive at the gate, suddenly the price has gone up to 1600 Baht.
Also, as long as you stay away from these attractions' staff, who will tell you they will take your picture for free(they say: "include".), but when the ride is over, they try to charge you 300 Baht for the picture.
Furthermore, never go to a party which was arranged for you by your Thai acquaintances, as they will take the leftover food AND stick YOU with the bill for the entire party.
If you heed all of this advice, then $1000 will be enough for one week, but $1500 is safer. Even if you run out of money, it is easy to use your debit or credit card to withdraw money. |
