Is the Philippines a first, second, or third world country?

first world, when you talk about its people and culture.
second world , when you talk about its resources.
third world, when you talk about its policiticans.

yadidifresh
people need to stop blaming the goverment..

its up to the people to make it better.

fed up with stupid questions
It's actually fourth world because no-one here realises how far behind the rest of the developing world we really are.

The country is bankrupt, everyone lives on credit and is as heavily in debt as the country, there's only an 8 hour working day with most of that spent walking backwards and forwards to the staff canteens and the rest of the working day is spent sending stupid texts because they're almost free.

About time the people here started putting in 12 hour days like most of the other Asian population, and stopped whining about their government, it's up to the people to make a country great, not a few people struggling against inherent laziness and the catholic church' ridiculous ideas on population explosion!

The Philippines is developing nation I don't think 3rd world would be a proper term because comparing our country to several African nations as well as some Asian countries we are still far better.

Don't believe me? Try reading more and stop complaining too much about our countries woes. No nation is perfect, even the United States. Just make do with what there is and don't dream of those without because thinking of better things only makes our lives miserable. In short, be happy with what we have now.

I cannot help noticing a strong resemblance of the Philippines to any of those impoverised 3rd world Central/South American countires and often joked about that as the SPANISH TOUCH just opposite of the Midas touch.

my question to answer your question :

'The Philippines lead all the other S E Asian countries in the early seventies and was spearheading all the way for more progress....WHAT WENT WRONG?????'

certain cities first world... certain places first world... certain schools first world... certain homes first world...the Filipino people first world ( except politicians, there not from this world )... sadly 80% of the country still and for a long time will be mired in the third world...

Well, according to Gloria Arroyo (the prez), Philippines is now a second world country (sorry to say she doesn't know what the term means) - in any case that Philippines is not third world country any more because the average yearly salary now exceeds US$ 1,400. Yaaaaay!!!

Mr.Knowitall
Actually it has been designated a second, or medium, world country in terms of human development. There are many places much worse off.

The Philippines is still considered a third world country due to its high poverty index. Though it is not as poor as the African regions, it is still beter off compared to Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia. The Philippines is generally categorized under "Developing countries".

Someone mentioned that Manila is a first world city. Comparing Manila to Singapore and even Hong Kong is a big laugh. Kuala Lumpur is even cleaner compared to Manila. First world cities does not have shatty towns and squatters in every bridge or riverbanks.

joy emz
it still third world..and hopefully we people from our counrty which is philippines can make it first world country. do our responsibility like paying tax..the government can't do nothing if we dont help them..and we should stop blaming thegovernment..

I think 2nd world means aligned with Soviet Union, so it's not 2nd world. I think due to the poverty in some areas it might be considered 3rd world. Previously considered 3rd world countries are now highly developed like Korea and Taiwan. The "politically correct" term (instead of 3rd world) might be "developing nation".

I think it depends where you go in the philippines...manila is pretty first world, the rest of the country is pretty much second world. Third world is what they call it when countries dont align themselves with our policies.

philippines is a developing country a.k.a. third world

i dont like the term third world
but it is the truth..

katherin evans
sad to say, its a third world country. why do you ask?

angel
Philippines is a third world country due to it's financial poverty. However, Filipinos are wonderful, smart people.

You shouldn't call the Philippines a first or third world country, that is Imperialist talk. That kind of label is outdated in this modern state of the world. Europeans used that label. The third world would be Latin America, Africa, and Southeast Asia. There is no second world. If you had to label it the philippines is in a transition out of the third world. Economically there are doing better but are however in huge debt. Globalism has removed these past labels but the best way to tag a country is to see what kind of industry it is mostly participating in. Either Agricultural, Industrial, or Technological/Service. Philippines will never be a Industrial powerhouse, so it seems there are making a jump from agricultural to technological. That is my two cents

Flongkoy
mr. marcos robbed our wealth!!!!

and let me correct, manila is not ist world it is very dirty and slum, ,many people are squatters, i think cebu or davao is better

zorrozebest
