The Bangkok Metropolitan Waterworks Authority claims the tap water in Bangkok meets or exceeds the standards set by the World Health Organization for tap water and is perfectly safe to drink. Of course you never know what kind of old pipes and plumbing the water has been through once it leaves the source, just like in most places in the world. I live in Bangkok, and I drink bottled water, mainly because I think it tastes better, is very cheap and can be bought ice cold almost everywhere you go.

I don't suggest drinking tap water in Thailand. Tap water is ok for taking showers, washing clothes, etc. but not to drink. I suggest buying bottled water. It is very cheap in Thailand. |

Generally the water from the tap is not safe for drinking. Some hotels do install their own water filtration system and do mark their taps that are safe to drink out from. You will probably see anothet tap that will dispense water for your washing.
Drink bottled water and buy from supermarkets and proper convenience store. You might want to avoid buying from roadside stalls.
Trust me. |

You'd better not take a risk. You can get a bottle of mineral water everywhere like at 7 elevens. It will ruin your whole trip if you get trouble with your stomach. |

i'm originally from thailand, so take it from someone who knows when i suggest you buy bottled water from there. you should look at a brand that either has a large tiger picture or says "TIGER" on it. its the clean--est water in thailand. the water is clean in bangkok, well clean enough to drink but just to make sure. drink bottled water. good luck in your trip & BE CAREFUL what you drink . :P |

Always bottled water. Even locals drink from bottles. It is available everywhere and cheap so it is NEVER an issue over there.
Just about every hotel will supply two bottles of drinking water for free (extra if you drink from the more expensive brand in the fridge of course).
A little tip: when you buy water there, you will be given straws to drink with. USE THE STRAWS!
Not only it is considered "impolite" to drink from bottles but sometimes, water from vendors on the street may have been kept cold sitting in a bucket of iced and TAP WATER so... your mouth may come in contact with tap water if you drink from the bottle.

Bottled water all the way :) showers are all good but not to drink! Some people take red cordial. I just came back & I was fine. Depending on the places - most places don't put ice in your drink, if they do its safe. But have a blast! Don't worry just have fun! You will be drinking Singah Beer most of the time :) hehe have a blast! |

It's quite safe to use the water in Bangkok to clean your teeth and wash clothes and food. However, no matter which city in the world you visit, the water will be different to what you're used to.
I suggest buying bottled water. It's cheap. Make sure your drink heaps. Bangkok is VERY hot and humid. |

So long as you're in local touring areas of the major cities you should be fine. As many times as I've gone there for vacationing I and my family and friends have never had any problems. |

I lived in Bangkok and Nonthaburi for the better part of three years. I never had a problem with the tap water there. The cleanest water out of the tap in Thailand is (surprisingly!) in Pattaya.
Rule of thumb- if there has been a thunderstorm within the last 24-72 hours better go to the store and get bottled water. Sometimes the rainfall does contaminate the water supply (this is even true in western countries). However most western countries are better equipped to correct the problem and few get the amount of rainfall that Thailand does during the wet season. I do not know for certain that the water is not safe to drink straight from the tap after a big downpour- I have not done it.
For the most part during the hot season and in winter, the water in Bangkok is very safe. |
