If you have family in the Philippines then you'll be fine. If none then your in trouble. Your calvary will start right in the airport. Don't ever trust those rent a car with driver in the airport. They will try everything to cheat you. That is base on my personal experience. If you pay somebody cash it should be the exact amount don't ever pay somebody with $100 dollar bill they will screw you with your change. If your coming from U.S then Phil. is the opposite of U.S. goodluck

there is always something bad no matter which country you choose. there will always be crime and violence and of course, corruption. so it is always best to be careful no matter where you go. and if you are in a country where you have never been to before, it is quite imperative to stick with someone who knows his way around.

however, just remember that the Philippines remain to be one of the top tourist destinations in the world.

The pollution causes your boogers to get dark, depending on where you stay - it's warm and humid, the comfort rooms aren't comfortable (carry toilet paper with you wherever you go), drink bottled mineral water ONLY, bug bites are such an inconvenience so be sure to bring some anti-bug lotion or spray, be aware of pick-pocketers and people taking advantage of you if you're a foreigner, get used to vendors running to the windows of your car trying to sell their products, and brace yourself for seeing malnutritioned, homeless animals and some people, for that matter, out on the streets.

Other than that, you'll have a great time depending on who your company is - family is the best to chill with in the PI. Good luck and enjoy :)

It's hot for sure, but it's good for you if you need to lose weight or get a tan. Traffic is horrible, I'm amazed at how there aren't that many accidents, especially with buses going like 100mph side by side with each other. I don't care what people say about the pollution there, I actually love it. Whenever I smell smog over here in the US or here a motorcycle, those kind of things bring me back and it makes me wish I was there.

Wet Buck is right. If you have families and friends here, you'l be a ok, since they will guide you.

Traffic is bad on weekdays, theres pollution, expect beggars on intersections. Some places aint that clean.

It's the usual city (Manila). There's be pickpockets and snatchers on marked streets, take care of your valuables, cellphone, camera and other gadgets.

On the other hand, please expect the hospitality and warm accomodation you will receive from us Filipinos.

Anyway, its safe here in the Philippines, you just have to be streetsmart =)

Just like any other country, the Philippines has problems. The country is young, under developed, but overall the people are great!

I am American and have lived and worked in the Philippines, When I was not living and working in the Philippines I was visiting on a frequent bases. I have lived and worked, later lived in Manila and invested and now snow-bird, living in the Philippines about five months out of the year. As an American who has lived more than ten years in the Philippines, three different times since 1980 and snowbirding since 2006 I have NEVER once experienced any problems.

Its easy to stay oout of trouble. Use some common sense, be familiar with your surroundings, do not wear expensive jewelry and do not flaunt/show off your money. Just blend in and enjoy the culture.

For the most part the Philippines is a beautiful country and the Filipino people are great. Sure like any other country in the world, there problems. Just use some common sense.

Are you a Filipino American? If so, you have a lot of relatives there to take care of you. All the other answers here are right, anyway, almost all the places in this world are like that. Enjoy and have fun. I go home to the Philippines every year and love every minute of it, nice golf course, white beach sand, shopping and seeing a lot of people smiles. That's Philippines!

pollution, intrigues on politics, some scary places (where you should be aware of all your belongings coz you might get robbed.), heavy traffic on some areas on certain time of the day, ....technically when you go around the world they have the same problems on certain areas...so, basically everything is great depends on how you look at things. anywhere you go you just have to research & know stuff before you travel. it will help you not to get lost and know their specialties on certain areas that way you get the best out off your money.

we got lot of great places you can travel with you not spending much but you'll definitely have a marvelous time esp. when your with someone special.

Everything is good in the Phiippines. Freedom is at its best. If you're here, there are lots of famous luxurious Shopping Malls to visit. We have fine hotels to stay in. Only 2 things that is bad; 1- our government is so graft & corrupt 2- Muslim rebels in far south, but this has nothing to do with visitors like you, who just want to enjoy a vacation. Welcome to our land, fantastic beaches (Boracay, El Nido), we have everything you need & ask for. Enjoy our summer escapades. Expect you soon.

As a woman the thing i dislike most about the Philippines is the sex tourism. Nearly every bar has prostitutes, some of which will even proposition your man right in front of you. Then there are several red light districts throughout Manila like Burgos street in Makati where anything goes and for a cheap price. And of course for expats working US hours its hard to find a bar other than one of the places where you actually buy a girl at the bar that is open when you get off work at 4 or 5am to wind down.

Also in general women are treated like second class citizens in general regardless of your socio economic status or race.
.

yahoo stinks
manila and all the people in it.... other than that, everything is awesome.

When you are trying to find some product to purchase , you must ask several where to get it , then when you get there it's "out of stock" . There is virtually no advertising .
Most of the food may not fit your taste unless you want to go to very expensive restuarants .
The cost of living can be higher than in the USA .
