A question may sound dumb to someone who thinks he knows it all but it could be sensible and informative to one who doesn't.

Wise answers come from stupid/dumb questions. What do you think brought the invention of light bulb or electricity or any other human inventions into existence? Didn't they all start from questions other people deem as stupid or foolish? Wasn't Sigmund Freud criticized for his improbable notion regarding his theory that "the catalog of neurotic ailments to which humans are susceptible is nearly always the work of sexual maladjustments, and that erotic desire starts not in puberty but in infancy"? Anyway, for his theory, someone is now trying to enshrine Freud in the hall of cultural heroes.

Yes, there can be dumb questions - those that came out of not using his/her common sense.

a question is dumb if it is only answerable by dumb answers...

Hmmnn, makes me remember my previous secretary whom I requested to buy envelops for prepared invitation letters for a baptismal celebration. She asked me what color and i replied, "any color but black". I was aghast on the day of the celebration because everyone presents their invitations in black envelops...

1. there are those who simply doesn't know how to formulate questions
2. there are those who suffers from common sense deficiency
3. there are those redundant questions meaning using different words with the same meaning just like someone said; 10th year anniversary hahaha
4. there are those who love to state the very obvious
5. there are those who are clueless to what they are talking about as a result they don't make any sense at all.

I agree with DD. There is no dumb question at all...just dumb answers.

If there is any truth to that...that means Curiosity = Idiocy. I doubt that anyone would agree to this.

no dumb questions here. just coz it makes no sense to us dont mean its dumb. to say a question is dumb is judging the asker. we shouldnt do that here.
if some questions looks dumb maybe the asker is only trying to be funny.
