I know this person who's last name is "Nguyen". Is that Filipino ? Additional Details Thanks for the tip. I only thought it might be Filipino because I know that some words in tagalog have the letter "g" after an "n" instead of vowels. Like the word "Ngayon" |

I did the research for you: Like everyone else said, it's Vietnamese....See below for more:
Nguyen is the most common Vietnamese family name. By some estimates, approximately 40 percent of Vietnamese people have this surname. Outside Vietnam, the prominence of this family name sometimes makes it even more popular than "native" family names in the area. In the United States, it is the 229th most popular family name, making it the most popular exclusively Asian family name, and placing it ahead of such names as Douglas and Gilbert. As Vietnam is a former French colony, Nguyá»…n is the 54th most common family name in France |

Filipino names are hard to judge because they were ruled for so long by Spain that many of the last names are Spanish, or at least have a Spanish accent to them. Depending on what Island you are from it could be Filipino, but my best guess is if they are Filipino, then they are mixed with something. |

Nguyen IS an Asian name, yes; but it is not Filipino.
Many of my fellow Filipinos's last names have Spanish origins.
And, many Filipinos have Christian names which came from the Western civilization.
Yes, "ngayon" is a Filipino (Tagalog) word which means "now" or "today". And, we do not use this word as a name.
And so......Ngayon, you have learned something new!
