Not quite. But this might be true in the far-flung areas.
Filipinos will easily think that you are an actor, cuz most actors and actresses in the Philippines are part-White American or part-Spanish (some others are pure American, Spanish, or Latino).
Plus, Most brown-skinned Filipinos aim to look like their actors - white and Caucasian. In the Philippines, whether you are a boy or a girl, if you look Caucasian, you are the superstar - you are really liked, and you easily become the most popular in school. Yeah, it's true. Being more European and less Asian in facial features is cool in the Philippines. Being beautiful is a fad here.
About 3.6% of all Filipinos are Spanish Mestizo and an estimated 2% are mixed White American-Filipino.
Also, there are about 170,000 Americans in Manila (overwhelmingly White) only . Philippines has the largest number of American citizens outside of U.S. So the adage that "you will be stared upon" is absurd.
Also, most city people will not care to stare at an American, cuz all city-dwelling Filipinos have practically mixed blood (usually Spanish/American/Chinese, or to a lesser degree, Japanese/Indian/Iranian). |

naturally! just like if you go to Redneckville, Mississippi and you were the only asian in a sea of rednecks, whould'nt all eyes be on you too? |

It's true that you will be stared at no matter where and what gender you are. It might be more obvious in a province where people are not exposed to foreigners all the time, as supposed to the city. If you are planning on visiting the Philippines anytime soon and you are caucasian, and it is obvious; don't worry the people are harmless, they are just curious. In fact revel in it cause you will not get the same attention in the states:) |

no... not true.... not all manileños will stare at you. |

I am white and it all depends where to you are. In Makati or the like, nobody will notice you. When I am any other place (which is most of the time) I get stared at A LOT. Quiapo, Baclaran, Tondo, and even Quezon City will create the stares for me. Also anytime I am on a jeepney. You really do get used to it and stop noticing after a week or so. Nobody says anything to me except kids that want to know my name, the tricycle guys that want to tease me, and the young teens that want to talk shite (i.e., whats your name? Can I kiss you? Can I have your nose?). |

not necessarily, depends on where you're at. If you're in makati or in some other business district. White guys or foreigners for that matter are common because many expats live there.
if you're in some exotic resort like boracay and palawan it's common too.
but if you're in a squatter's area or some other "non-tourist friendly place" eyes will be on you. it's because people are wondering why a foreigner would be there.
but if anywhere you go, people are still looking at you it's because you're cute....hey who wouldn't stare at a cute guy? |

Well yea, because you have a different ethnic group than asians. And also, many people have either african-american father/mother and asian mom/dad.
So since not many filipino families have full-blood americans in there family tree, they stare. That is basicaly instinct, because people are different. They aren't racists, just looking at you funny cuz you have a different ethnic group. |

yes its true but not for the right reasons....the locals either want your cash....want a western passport...or they see you as a sex tourist |

a word to the wise. be careful, plenty of pickpockets. so be care ful with your money and trvl documents. just be street smart.
sometimes filipinos stare, but its more on amazement than being impolite.
their actually admiring you when they stare coz your different. and dont be scared if they greet you by the raising of the eye brows. |

It Does seem like it....after all, almost 66 million Filipinos 99% black hair, brown skin....your kind of a sore thumb.
I lived in N.Y. and you have to have green hair and blow a horn in order for people to notice you. |

I've been to philippines once. And i'm going again.
I didn't stay at Manila. But i arrived there. yes people spotted me immediately and looked...stared?...well at the international airport..not really, they probably see all kinds of people around.
They looked at me in the city, but it seemed respectful. I liked it. But my (ex..)girlfriend told me she did not (she's filipino).
But i stayed most of the time in a village province. They definately stared at me there. And i loved it. They are very nice people. They were interested in me. No on but of filipino blood was in that village. So i was looked at and, i think, respected too. Some spoke English to me, and when i walked around alone in the village...i literally made every family on the whole long street come out of their houses and sit by their doors and look at me. I enjoyed looking at them back. Everything was peaceful and interesting. As long as you are kind, they will love you. the school children/teenagers were walking to school and looking too. The young girls seemed very shy to look or talk, just giggle with their friends. The males are more brave to come up to you, and like having their photo taken.
Everything is different in the city though. |

Philippine isn't a diversified country unlike US colonies or UK colonies. Filipinos will find it unsually when somebody who has westener features, not just being white, but looking like american or european are mostly be given attention to. there are white skinned asians even not young. its a pleasure for their eyes to see your white features. most filipinos can't afford to travel overseas for pleasure, sometimes even for business. seeing other nationalities is by nature makes filipinos curious, due to lack of understanding they sometimes will make fun of you behind your back. riducule all your movements, whatsoever, but you'll not gonna know it, they hide it through their sweet smiles and will talk slang languages. |

depends on where you're at. If you're in the City then its no big deal. Coz there are lots of "mestizos" and mestizas" there.
Lol, Iam an Asian working in a redneck State. But they dont stare at me or anything. Probably because I dont look like your typical Asian... or the people here are polite and good.
Get a tan try to blend in a bit, Business people in Manila won't even notice that you are white, its the street people that will. |
