First and foremost, Malaysia is net oil exporter, which means we have enough fuel for our domestic use, produced locally! OPEC will not be happy if we set our own fuel price and distribute locally at lower price. But we did p

we've got a leader who's sadly now known as a liar, go figure who.
'the person' said the price of petrol will increase on August.
ain't that lying? ain't that
and the next thing you know the price increases effective June 5th.

jimmy
OK. I suppose rising fuel prices cannot be avoided. OK, The government have to reduce fuel subsidies....So what is it going to do with the amount saved ? Is to going to improve public transport - or to someone else's pockets ? We have a lousy public transport. We need cheap fuel to get around... Will the government now give us a good public transport ? By good, I mean the general public can dispense with their cars- walk a maximum 2 minutes from their homes or offices and hop on a bus or train then hop off and walk a maximum 2 minutes to their destinations at nominal charges.... Until the government can provide us with such a system for the WHOLE country, fuel subsidy should stay. The question is-can Malaysia really afford to reduce fuel subsidy ? Do not cpmpare with the neighbours. They are already used to high fuel prices. Their daily lives have already be well adjusted. Now Malaysians will also have to adjust their life styles.... some may need to jump off the twin towers....

Update:

11.00 p.m. 4th May, 2008, Malaysia-

Queue to ESSO petrol station: 1 km. Mostly Kencils.

Yes... Knew it... I also never see such a scene before at the gas station. It's time to change our lifestyle, last time RM500 fuel per month will increase to RM1000. I'm thinking where to cut the living cost. Eat less so I can save and diet. Stay up on a hill so I can get free cool air, no need fan or air cond.

Later the staffs will protest for salary increase, and when the boss increase the products price the customers will decrease, I think will bankrupt soon.

Rising fuel prices just make it more expensive for my husband and I to get to Malaysia. I love the country and the people and whenever there is a program on tv about it I feel very homesick. Sob sob!

I think the gov't should take a big step in introducing more public transport that is accessible to any place in the country. me, staying near the largest Aeon in S.E.A, but the only public transport is buses(that takes few routes) & taxis

edit: Jimmy, that's exactly what I meant.
By car, without traffic jam to office - 20minutes
with traffic jam - 1 hour.
By bus, walk out from home to nearset bus stop, 10 minutes.
Take 1 bus to Klang, another bus to my office, walk 5 minutes to office.
I have to come out from my house at 6.15am.

Floating the fuel price based on the market movements will teach the public to be more clever. We'll learn how to change our lifestyle and inevitably, we'll become more cautious on our spending pattern.

Right now, everybody will feel the hard pinch because the fuel price is on the rise. Let's pray that the international fuel price go down then maybe it will be a lot cheaper than the rate when it was subsidised, hopefully.

What irks me most is that our government refuse to make it easier for us. If they want to scrap the subsidy, then maybe they should scrap paying road tax, toll and other levies as well.

I already home. Now the big question for me is : do I take your advice and go out scouting for petrol and then join the queue (waste petrol and rm in the process, or just bite the bullet and less stress). Thanks for the update anyway.

silenth, sompat ko kutuk aku yo? lol

huishh..the queue was like waiting to be onboard to Penang Ferry service.
people camping outside their car eating nasi goreng brought from home,
smoke ciggarette, drink milkshake
and have chit-chat with other drivers at the side of the road.

No kidding, I'm telling the truth.

Thank god I'm using diesel,
so my queue cut short compare to car using petrol.

huh...finally I'm home,
will finish my full tank by tomorrow,
need to travel from Kedah to Pahang.

what a waste!
