yeah, having clean tidy cities is important, it looks good for us, tourists, and cuts back on the spread of germs. its a win win situation. as i do not toss rubbish on the street, spit on the sidewalks etc these rules really don't affect me.

i'm trained not to do the thing since i was a kid, so it's nothing new to me, it's a part of my way of life

But very sad, people who claimed that they have higher level of civilization throw rubbish out of a car driven at high speed almost double the speed limit on Malaysian highways.

i don't wait government to enforce the law...when waiting for bus and i saw someone throw rubbish in front of me..i will go direct to the person and..."excuse me, do you know if all people like you, malaysian will live in rubbish....i appreciate if you collect the rubbish and throw it into dustbin. If you don't see dustbin, put it in your beg or hold it until you found one....." and i make sure, i speak out loud, and all the people at bus stop hear me....and i also hate when people don't know how to queue......

I live in a very clean city and the majority of the people here do not litter or spit. But it's kind of sad as there are a few who would still throw rubbish from their cars. They are the very selfish lot and mind you it saddens me a great deal to know why some people can be so selfish. Not to mention some would just park their cars and couldn't care less if they 'll cause any inconvenience to others. These people apparently have nothing betwee their ears and ought to be given a proper lesson. How sad ,and rediculous too, why people have to be told to act the way they should.Shame.

YES!
In fact, civic education should begin from home, parents teaching the young, starting right from one's personal hygiene.
The problem, however, is the authorities ready?

Michael F
That's all fine and dandy.
Let's have the anti-litter laws as applied in Singapore.
But let's also have the facilities to ensure it's feasible.
In Singapore you'd walk 10 metres before you came across a litter bin todispose of any incidental rubbish. In Malaysia you'd be lucky to find one after walking 10 KILOmetres.

The issue of enforcement is also a good point (made previously). There is simply no police presence on the streets. Which is why the crime rate continues to escalate.

The Government should not enact laws without putting in place ALL of the tools to make them realistic targets.

If thats what it takes to perserve the country's beauty then let it be.

Adi Keladi
Of course we need to adapt if we want to live in a "fine" city like Singapore. But looking at the behaviour of this civilised people in Malaysia, i.e. in terms throwing rubbish, breaking speed limit etc, they actually adapt to our way of life by doing them twice as many as us.

Lots of law already in place, the only thing left out is where is our law enforcer.

i.e. park (Taman)
I use to hv weekend jogging at one of the taman near cheras. The signboard is very clear, NO motorcycle allow inside the jogging trek. But the town council ppl is riding on the bike on the trek.

What should we do???

LittleBoy
Hello

This is not about ready or not, this is about personal discipline and civic. Malaysia sadly is not up to that as of yet.

Jimster
Great, very civalized. But why can't the Malaysians use their brains and not throw rubbish on the floor in the first place?
Do they have to be scared with fines? Are they really that stupid?
Yes, they are that stupid apparently.........

Very interesting question.

70% of the people in Malaysia are litterbug. Be it - locals, immigrants or foreigners.

And I don't understand why people spit in public. It's gross and very unclassy.
