I am a Christian, so my answer is from a Christian view. So other please don't be too sensitive. For me, a person should choose his own religion not the government. |

Because their prophet said so and the government had enected law to enforce this. In Malaysia even if a apostate is able to evade the law, he is not able to evade from the hostility from his families and the Muslim society around him.
To me, anyone of any religion at all, if he feels that he does not believe in the religion he was born into, he has every right to profess whatever religion he wishes. The most important is how he feels about his beliefs, there is no point calling himself a Christian, Muslim, Buddhist or Hindu but he practices otherwise.
As for Muslims, it is just too bad that their religion restrict them from converting out. I believe that many Muslims in Malaysia are actually practicing other religions in secret but are officially still called Muslims which I think is just fine, as long as they can find inner peace in themselves afterall all religion teach its followers to be good. It is just too unfortunate for these Muslims that they have to live their lives in closets until they die unless they opt to go overseas. It is sad that one of the very basic rights of mankind is taken away from them, |

To most of the generalise assumption is asking if Malays cant convert into Christianity, I would like to address that. There is no federal law that bans conversion. Its only in Syariah law. Federal law is still the supreme law in Malaysia, eventhough there was a fluke in Lina Joy's case.
However, my church in Malaysia has about 600 ex-muslim converts into Christianity and is worshipping Allah in Jesus name. |

If muslims are allowed to convert to other religion esp Christianity, Malaysia will have turned into Christian country. I remember in the early nineties, thousands of muslims esp Malays applied to Religious Department to renounce Islam. The Govt and the Islamic Ã…ffairs were alarmed to these changes therefore enacted a law that requires religion tobe inserted into myKad to identify the muslims and also to make it harder for them to change their religion. Not only that, they also made it compulsory for students taking Public Exams to indicate if they are Muslims. This is a discrimination. There was hue and cry. Later on, the matter died its natural death. Not knowing the conclusion.
KiD, you're talking about Dato Azhar Mansor. That guy is just a Muslim in name but secretly lives as Christian. So is Dato Sheikh, the Malay from Johor speaking with French twang. Eventhough his wife converted to Islam, their lifestyle isnt Islamic at all. |

Christians could convert to Islam if we so elected on our own free will and our own choice .
But Islam could not convert to other religion, its the Islamic law , but your religion will not determine your character . If you are Christian , Protestant , Muslim or what have you in terms of religion , you could always be the person you like to be , a good person what ever your religion is . Its the same God we honor and respect and should follow its teachings not the personality that espouse our religion. Your being saved is a gift from God , be it Allah or Jesus , its not what we do but its the will of God that saved us.
Go and be Muslim and we Christians will treat you as same brothers in God . |

Actually, there is a story before about a man that have to choose between convert to Christian or stay still in Islam and will get Dato for his effort in his solo expedition in the sea. it is about a dream and experience...
When people ask Him about his religion, he said "No comment".. |

Most of the wars in the world war were fought in the name of religion and millions died as a result.
Religions should be at their personal choice and no body including the government should interfere in religion. Unfortunately in Malaysia and some other countries, other religions are treated second to fourth class. (Dhimmitude)
This is a recipe for disaster. Countries who eliminated dhimmis are not happy either: Refer Pakistan or Bangladesh who have systemically eliminated their minorities by the vote hungry politicians or military dictators who abused religion to be in power.
My worry is Malaysia wants to become Pakistan (althoug misinformation minister Zam denied it in his brilliant interview with Al Jazeera) |

Because some of Malaysians really understand the false concept of Trinity which become hugely popular in 1980's. The concept which introduce in Constantinople (Istanbul today) during the Holy Roman Empire was also against by Sir Isaac Newton as he himself relates it to a concept as to be called as "New Paganism", where people didn't worship the God directly, but within Jesus or Isa (pbuh).
Islam itself really promise the truth for the muslims. And for a muslim if they understands and pursuit the Islam well there will be no way to go for other religion, as Islam itself is the way of life.
The Bible?.. Numerically.. scientifically and Math errors, yet not only that.. actually there are 50,000 errors in Bible.. it has so many versions which leads too many confusions even among the christians.. Its not like the Holy Quran which still remain the same from the first time Muhammad (s.a.w.) pbuh recieved it untill now. And no other versions. So no confusions

http://www.jamaat.net/bible/Bible1-3.html
The muslim who'd renounce from Islam is rather a muslim who don't recognize Islam or a religion itself as a burden and mostly never found their understandings in the Holy Al-Quran. They tend to make something which oppose to what Allah told like omitting the 5 times pray, not covering the aurah (men and women), alcoholism, too many musics which leads to bad deeds and as well as lack of understanding about the Islam they gained when they're born.
And I have to say that most Malaysian teenage would rather seek the peace in their heart with discos and other variations related which brought to several unhealthy social situation like most of the Malays parents worried about, rather than pray to Allah. Yet Islam is not being religious, but Islam is the life.
Me myself is a former catholic and renounce it as most of my collegues turn up to be atheist. I choose Islam and Islam is the most perfect among all, and the people in Europe, North America and even in South America like Brazil and my home Uruguay realized that this (ISLAM) is not a religion..but the way of truth. |

ida: are you yourself a muslim???if you are then you should know why???why asking others if you have the answer???
even if he's muslim, that doesn't guarantee he knows the answer. maybe he's just a muslim by name, but never practice anything that islam wants him to. if he really knows islam, then he wouldn't even think of converting to other religion. |

Can under situations like this:-
1) if you've adopted living like a Christian or other religion for over 5-10years continuously.
2) you've been adopted into a family that's diff. from your own religion since birth/child. (real case happens to my uncle's adopted son. His real family ditch him behind coz. they were drug addicts & owed loan shark money. Left him & gone off somewhere. Since nobody adopted him & his malnourished. My uncle took care of him, over the years his parents never claim him..so whn he enrolled to school the government did all the registrations & processes and recognize him as Budhist in primary school. Although my uncle's family got Christians, Hindu also..my uncle let him to choose his religion can even go bck bcm Muslim.
3) If you're originally non-Muslim thn. u married a Muslim to convert. Thn. you divorce, you can apply to the court to "reconvert bck". <-- this happens to a few ladies I know, after their husband main kayu 3, or abuse them thn ditch them. So after divorce thn switch bck.
The thing is MUST apply to the court & etc. get it process. |

Probably because if it's discovered you converted you'll be killed according to the Muslim doctrine of killing infidels.
But I would convert if I were you. |
