Seri, I am a Singaporean and I say you are talking cock. What has cheap petrol got to do with love and hate towards one`s Government huh, may I ask you?
Malaysian expect their petrol to be low as they have their own oil field but most of the oil are being exported out for hard currency.
So you see the picture? The Government has no choice but to subsidise the petrol they sell to the public. But for how long is the question no one can answer.
Malaysian in general do not, I repeat do not hate their Government but only certain top people in Government who are well known to have very deep pockets. And maybe one or two who are also well known for creating unhappiness within the Chinese communities like the waving of the kris for example. The demolition of the Indian temple is another amongst the Indian.
Other than that I don`t see any other reason why they are ungrateful towards their
Government as the way you wrote. |

Petrol should be cheap because Malaysia is a producer of oil...............Malaysia makes RM 36 billion a year from Petronas..........and petrol is not the only issue when it comes to whether you approve/disapprove the govt......... |

The Malaysian are not being hateful. The effect of changes will cause a temporary rash reaction. Time will heal it. |

Hating the government doesn't mean that one is 'ungrateful'. There's always a cause for everything and perhaps people in general are just too 'tired' of the government that is being ungrateful towards the people instead.
There's nothing much for me to say/do about the petrol price. Its not a Malaysian or Singaporean problem, its a global issue and we can't blame solely on the government for this, but for what they're doing instead.
One does not 'hate' the government solely because of petrol prices. There's a bigger picture to this, which I would like to refrain from raising in this post. |

Do you have mangoes, bananas, etc... in Singapore ? Sometimes, these fruits go bad, i.e. have worms in them- you can still eat the good parts. They still taste good. The poor will be "very happy" to have them. Sometimes, these fruits are discarded, but are collected by people of lower means, FOC, BUT, that fruit is still BAD ! People feel bad as regards petrol because our oil was sold at a very low "forward" price...to be bought back now at very high price....won't you be MAD ?
Petrol looks cheap in Malaysia because it is subsidised by the Government, but we pay for it in other ways...otherwise, where can the government get the money to pay for the subsidies ? |

that is not the thing that make the Malaysian don't like the government, but the corruption, the deep pocket of top people in government without explanation, etc which the Malaysian people want explanation but been denied, and also the media freedom that been controlled by the government tightly...

Malaysia has cheaper gas because it produces oil. Oil is cheaper in the US than in Europe because of government does not tax oil as high as it is in Europe. The oil under Malaysia belongs to every Malaysian & everyone should benefit from it.
Contrary to popular belief, one can be a critic of the government but still be loyal to the country. That's democracy. I dislike a government that pratices nepotism, protecting its businesses and taking public money into its own coffer.
In this respect, Malaysia isn't so far behind (or ahead) of Singapore. Both nations have been in the clutches of a person (in Singapore's case the Lee family). The government is there to serve the people and not the people's tax to wash away the government's dirty laundry.
I also am against sending someone to jail under an obsolete British law under false pretences. That person may not be an angel but to put a false charge on a leader of a country because he was challenging you, that's just wrong, no matter how many ways you cut it. |

if the petrol price is the only measure for your love towards the government then perhaps it shouldnt affect me at all. i dont buy malaysian petrols anymore.
what if i told you malaysia is one of the major petrol/uem producers in the world YET this is the price we are paying?
what if singapore is one of the major producers of IT gadgets in the world yet you are paying as much as all the other countries are?
my loving or unloving towards my government is definitely an issue or more than JUST petrol... call me ungrateful.... but i'd not want to explain too much at this stage... |
