Malaysians, what's the 1st thing that comes in mind about 'Islamic state'?

Just want to know what others are thinking. I have my own pre-conception though, in which I'll write it down once the best answer is ready.

During Ramadhan the school is closed. Focus on Quran reciting and Terawih prayers and other religious matter.
Crime rate - zero(only happen when a foreigner, tak cukup makan, but seldom happen)

One the most popular and common misconception is under Islamic state, non-Muslims are also subject to Sharia law. In real Islamic state, non-Muslims are subject to their own religious rules and laws. Another misconception, Islamic state is like Afghanistan under Taliban. Nope, Taliban is neither Islamist nor fundamentalist. They are extremists and what they have is an extreme version, not the real version, of Islam.

GarisHalus
nothing .. Malaysia - Islamic State? .. haha yea right ... but Malaysia is a member of OIC ...

Guys ... especially the non-Malay (non-Muslim) ... why you so afraid of Islamic State? ... no such thing as .. no entertainment no that no this ... force to join Islam or terrorist .. you were saying like a low class individual with low class mentality... Islam is not about forcing everyone to accept it School of thought ... Islam is peaceful and tolerance (i believe other religion also thought the same)... if u are saying Islam is terrorist and always fight among themselves... look at China & Tibet & Taiwan ... why they are all fighting one another.

So be cool .. and for Muslims ... don't act like you are God ... don't tell this right and this wrong ... we have our own way to prove rights and wrongs ... in the end ... we always leave it to the Almighty God ...

I agree with almost all the answers above, but many likes to misunderstand an Islamic state.. Look at the ottoman empire, and the mughal dynasty, and the city of Medina itself.. they didnt force Islam unto everyone, they allowed for everyone to practice their religion freely, a proof is that, india's major religion is still hinduism, and then the places in europe that ottoman ruled, many of them are still christians, they even allowed for the building of new synagogues.. Like Hyugaowen said, I agree with it, but there are other forms of entertainment available, and bsides, its not like Islam prohibits entertainment.. it is only that there are limits to it.. and, hey, girls still look hot with or without tudung(or at least, I do..heheheh)!!!
Thats my say...

As long as it is not used to oppress and suppress other's faith, there is no problem. But the history was not kind, once any religion comes into politics, there are plenty of examples of injustice.

Why not allow anybody to believe what they want rather than forcing them to?

Sabrina says "why not let everyone believe what they want rather than forcing them to"
Well, everyone does believe what they want. How can they not do so?
The problem with "an Islamic State", is that in order to be allowed to "get on with their lives" people are obliged to "pretend" to believe what they're "supposed" to believe.
"Belief" and"Faith" are, of necessity, personal choices. You can not believe or have faith in something simply because someone else tells you that you must.
Faith tends to arise from compunction, not compulsion.

first thing would be - malaysia? wrong concept. it's a mismatch
