Your friend can get a 3-room HDB (2 Bedrooms).
Renting a room in Singapore cost $700~$900 (depends on area)
CC Charge @ $50
PUB (gas, Electricity & water) @ approxi. $70~110 for a unit with no aircon.
newspaper @ $22~24 per month. We do have free chinese & English newspaper during weekday @ all mrt station, but you must be there early to grab one for yourself.
we pay GST (5%) to all goods we buy, some merchants will absorb the GST some not. then for income more than $20k per year we are liable to personal income tax @ 3.75% for resident. You may check it up at this website www.iras.gov.sg
cable TV for basic group is around $25/=per month. check this www.starhub.com.sg
Bus/MRT fare for 1~8 stops is around $0.80 ($0.62 for ez link) check this http://www.sbstransit.com.sg/
Food is rather cheap if you do cooking yourself. $1/$2 for vegetables, 1 chicken (small) @ $3~5. Fishes, range from $0.69 per 100gms.

travelling by bus/train - $100
gas -$40
electricity and water - $80
tax - annual, depends on income
newspaper - $30
cable - $40 (basic channels)
food - hawker prices will be about $3 per person per meal; food court will be around $4
$3 x 2 meals x 30days = $180 (per person)
you mentioned sometimes they cook so they can cut down expenses on food.
i am doing an estimation. hope this helps. |

According to the research, Singapore's total expenditures are ranked at 17th for first quarter of 2006. First in the line is Korean, followed by Japan. We're 17th and we were ranked at 34th in 2005. Go figure. |

The job seeker can either live rather cheaply in Singapore, or can live a life of luxury. Salaries are competitive, and numerous benefits (such as recreation facilities and bonuses) make working here a rewarding experience.
Food is relatively cheap in Singapore. Food courts (which are often air-conditioned) or what are commonly called hawkers' centers are recommended for an inexpensive, hearty meal. However, restaurant prices are higher.
Those on expatriate compensation packages may also receive additional benefits, such as transportation/car allowances, housing, childcare, payment of school fees, entertainment allowances, and work-related benefits. |
