I am already in the management position and I would really love a lone wolf tattoo on my biceps and when wearing short sleeves will expose just a hint...to show to the older gits...don't bloody mess with me!! |

I've got 20 plus big tattoos but not on my hands/face/neck etc, potential employers will look down on you and will choose somebody else.
Your Mum is correct |

If you apply for police or army (in Malaysia) you'll be rejected for sure. My brother got tattoos all over his body but still manage to get a job in KL and already a success (i like to think so).
If you apply for a job that will have to reveal your hands, you will have a hard time convincing people that you are serious. |

she was right. especially in malaysia.. ppl view u differently.
if u decided to have one try to hide it...sentimental value doesn't need to be shown |

Yes, people who has easily spotted tatto (neck, arms, leg, shoulders) are looked as troublesome people, involved in crimes etc.. I want a tattoo on my back but this fact is stopping me to do so. |

Basically a person with tattoo will be regard as associate with gangster. Unless you are Iban and tattoo Iban's traditional tattoo , then it is difference story. |

I think it depends on what kind of job you're looking for, how big the tattoo is, and how the tattoo looked like. |

depends on the job.

for slant-door job like bouncer, pirated CD/DVD sales representative, body guard ... etc, u may have better chance. |

When you go for an interview, it is your first appearance that makes the interviewer decides if he/she want to find out more about you. In our community, we tend to just jump into conclusion that some one with tattoo are some one not serious about life, and many other reasons. |

yes. if im boss i wont let my employees hae tattoos |
|

floozy_niki

For sure. Only gangsters have tattoos and it's free of charge paid for by the boss. If you are not a gangster, then there is no need to get tattoos. But if you get tattoos, society will discriminate against you. On the hand is difficult to hide so everyone will know you have tatts and think you are gangster. |

Yes true, tattoo = bad boy = trouble = thief/murder = prison = loss in job productivity |

As a boss, I would say that mummy's right. Too bad but tattoos are associated with freaks so its hard not to be distracted from it. Its ok if it is discreet but people who shows it off on their hands says a lot about who they are personally than professionally. |

Its not true. However, the 'general' assumption that you have mentioned is quite true for most people, especially among the conservative group of people. It really depends what you are interested in doing/taking up as a career. Oh yeah, and the type of tattoo and where you needled it on.
I've got tattoos on both shoulders and so far, I've never had any problem with jobs or socializing with anyone. In fact, I've gotten more enquiries on where they could get similar ones like mine.
Tattoos aside, body piercing is usually riskier and least favorable as it jeopardizes the safety of workers in some industries (airlines, construction, engineering, etc.). |
