Philippines being an additional state of USA?

I am not in favor of this. I'd always want the Philippines to be free, proud and independent.

Believe it or not. When the Philippines was colonized by the US and ceded us from Spain in the Treaty of Paris, almost half century after that, some US legislators thought of annexing the Philippines as part of US. But President Roosevelt and majority of legislators in the US congress killed the proposal the very moment it hit the floor.

US thought that the distance between the US and the Philippines is too impossible for the US to effectively govern the newly-found colony. Unlike Puerto Rico, Philippines is larger, has so many educated illustrados, and has so strong sense of nationalism.

Annexing the Philippines is difficult for the US because it would be so politically unstable to have a Asia Pacific territory near other potential superpowers. Unlike Guam, which is very small in size and population, and Hawaii which is relatively remote in the Pacific Ocean and somewhat near the US, Philippines does not have any of these characters.

Philippines can never be, or at anytime, shall never be a state or a province of any country. We never liked to be ruled by others. We love freedom so much, we had more than 200 revolts in the 300 years of Spanish rule.

No... I doubt the Philippines will become the 51st state. But what ya'll really need is a deal with the US Postal service that will allow us to send packages to the Philippines just like it was another state (and the other way). Micronesia and the Marshall Islands recently struck deals like that. I can now ship stuff there via priority mail at domestic rates. Puerto Rico is like that too and has been for a long time. Do you know what that would do for the economy in the Philippines?! If you could ship your products cheaply to the US, you could then start small online business like on eBay and sell all those wonderful baskets, carvings, etc. See for yourself at http://www.usps.com

How many times does this question have to be ask before the consensus is gotten Filipino's on the most part do not want to be part of the U.S.A. and the U.S.A. does not want the Philippines. Each country has it own unique set of problems and does not need to be bothered with taken on the other.

Thats brutal, but true. Look how the Philippinnes was abandoned after the Pinatubo eruption destroyed Subic and Clarke..... To expensive to rebuild, so they just left.
