They have to earn a living. Unfortunately, that's the only way available to them.

Because:
a) Many poor girls from rural areas of Thailand can only make money for their families via prostitution. They can save the lives of their parents and younger siblings that way.
b) There's a lot of trafficking in women--naive girls meet "recruiters" who tell them to sign up with their "agency" to go to Singapore to get a job as a maid, then when the girls arrive, they find themselves actually imprisoned in brothels, under the complete control of the traffickers.
c) Thai prostitutes can make more money as prostitutes in Singapore than they could in Thailand. So they go there and send money back to their families.
d) There's a lot of demand for foreign prostitutes in Singapore because it's an affluent country and the Singaporeans themselves are wealthy enough that they don't need to resort to prostitution, but there are many girls from other countries who are poor and desperate who will do so. Singapore is a real crossroads, conveniently located so businessmen from many other Asian nations can easily go there on sex tours away from their families, but cover it up with claims of doing legitimate business.

Not only Thais, if you look carefully. Anyway, most of them that do this is mainly to make some quick money to send home. Most of them will be from the poorer countryside and thus unable to secure proper jobs in the cities, hence resorting to this to earn their money.

They are more concerned about ensuring that their family back home have the money, than for themselves. Most of their families do not even know how they earn their money.

For them, it is more a matter of financial concern than a personal concern. It is a sacrifice they are willing to accept for the sake of their family..

if you watch dateline or 20/20 -- the girls for the most part have been orphaned back home or kidnapped and put into those brothels.

The services provided by Thai (and Fillipina and other) girls in Singapore can be sold at much higher prices than what is common in their home country. Moreover, the girls' friends and family back home do not know what goes on.

When a girl returns from two weeks in Singapore, she can with a bit of luck, looks & skills have earned more than by doing the same thing for two months at home and more than six months of working in a factory at home.

The business may be "dirty" as you write, but there would be no business if there weren't any buyers. And in Singapore, the buyers are willing to pay top dollar.

prostitution is bad news. all of them need to be busted. there are other jobs. the pimps also need to serve jail time. what is wrong with this world. it is crazy. since i have been in law, i would bust them with a big fine.
