Question about speculations on Sept 16th 2008?

Some people claim that it is an 'undemocratic' move. Well, I view it as a political game. People win, people lose. Of course, the ballot box is one of the 'symbol' of democracy but the move by some 30+ MPs to form a new government, in my personal point of view, IS a sign of democracy and in fact, a stronger face of democracy than ever (something that's never been done in the history of Malaysia).

Political maturity or 'political suicide' some may call... what's your take?

If any person said this is not acceptable or not democratic, let me remind you all that BN did the same thing to Sabah (Ginduras kampung) way back in the 90s' when Parti Bersatu Sabah was in the opposition ... PBS won the election but BN welcome those elected opposition representatives to 'hop' over ... that is how BN come to power then and they have the cheek to say that is what the people there wanted ...

So if that is acceptable then, I don't see any wrong if 916 is reality ... moreover, the top leadership now is weak and indecisive ... plus the country economy doesn't seem to be going in the right direction ...

Prime Minister talked about prudent spending ... here you have a bunch of MPs going for a study trip (agricultural ... at first to Australia ... then to Taiwan .. another flip flop news) ... they say it is self funded ... but I don't believe they are not claiming a single cent from the rakyat plus we don't have access to these info ...

So, if DSAI will come to change all the shortcomings, let it be so ...

Whatever best for our country.

Absolute power corrupt absolutely. Let the Opposition play their role well for check and balance. For me it's not about democratic or not (you never find yourself a true democratic country) because me myself has no more confidence in Pak Lah's leadership.

However, i don't prefer it this way of jumping here and there. For example if that particular BN MP (who is corrupt) jump to Pakatan Rakyat, (he still that corrupted guy aite?) it do not make any difference and good to our country. Unless ... the jumper is a good leader (good guy lah) ... he can't stand under BN anymore bla bla .. well how do we differentiate them? Type A or Type B? ... i dunno ... and if September 16 really happen, i hope the Type B guys will jump ... if not ... just hope (hope? haha) our country will stay stable for at least another 4 years.

Undemocratic move ? We have had worse in the past 50 years....Let 16th Sept., 2008 be the start of a new era for Malaysia and Malaysians.

In Malaysia, the ballot box is no longer a democratic device, what with all those ghosts voters in the list and unethical electionering.... Look- the jumping MPs were supposedly the elected representives of the people, and they have been given the trust to do the best they can...if jumping boats is their best decision, the people should support them. It is democracy in action - Malaysian style...

What is supposedly going to happen on September the 16th?

I say Anwar - same sh*t like M - time just isnt ripe yet

hehe haha
In Malaysia the voters normally pick the party rather than the individual MPs. Very few independent MPs can win by themselves. It can be argued that people vote for parties rather than for the MPs.

However the system allows for MPs to leave a party and to join another. Freedom of association. It may not be 100% ethical as voters may have picked them for the party they represented. However this has been done many times before, most notably by Barisan buying over PBS MPs in Sabah.

If on Sep 16 entire parties move to the other side, then there are no ethical issues.

MPs jumping for the sake of money or position are not the ones I trust. They will probably jump again as soon as someone else offers more.

I also think the Election Commission is far from neutral and has made the Malaysian elections a mockery of democracy. The phantom voters and the indelible ink fiasco are a lot more unethical than jumping MPs.

All things considered we need a change in the present corrupt regime before our country goes bankrupt.

What Mahathir Iskandar Kutty nurtured in UMNO was one of racial and religious hatred bordering on ethnic persecution, if unchecked would lead on to genocide that we see in places like Sudan. Ordinary Malaysian and a Malay has no problem with other races

Where is democracy practiced by UMNO? none
Where as Hindraf in prison, Ahmed enjoying all his privileges

UMNO is a danger to humanity and mankind; it is evil except for its leader Badawi.

The evil has to be removed at any cost for all malaysians, otherwise it could destroy the society.

We have no other hope that Anwar, Another UMNO leader like Najib has no democratic values and could become a dictator putting all the opposition leaders in prison.

There may not be further chances. You need medicines for infection, even if the medicine has side effects

Just like that, UMNO needs to be eradicated, new generation of leaders should take over who will have moral conscience and mutual respect for one another.

Until that time, Anwar is the only answer to all Malaysians Hope and Prayer
