first all... I want to tell you, they don't want to be white, and that not all Filipinos want to have lighter/whiter skin... although some do, it's because of 'colonial mentality'... okay???
we are proud of what color we have... we're not dark, we're not white, we're just tan... |

Just like the ones I used to know

And children listen to hear
Sleigh bells in the snow.... |

OK N**, I used to live in Taiwan, and there's no way you can find a sunless tanning cream there. Perhaps it's because in Europe they can be mistaken for gypsies.... You're totally wrong about US where everybody tries to get a GOOD suntan... not so that they will be black.... but what they want is none of your business. |

Not everybody. Besides, it's a matter of choice. If a person thinks that a particular look is good, that's his/her opinion, and not something we can grill them about. Be cool, dear, you might get a heart attack. ^_^ |

I have a question for you, can you speak in Filipino? or you are one of them who hate speaking the language because it's cheap they say? are you?
you should have not warned the haters here for i think that it is you who is the hater. why the hell americans want to be brown and the black people to have a lighter color? it's just the same ask them before you question us here.
Not all want to look like what you think maybe your grandma or aunt but not my family so don't generalize. |

not all want to be white but a small segment of our community. our constitution guarantees the freedom of thought and belief as long as these rights do not infringe on the rights of others. for those who want to be white, we just let them be. they just be sure to carry an umbrella everytime they walk in sunny philippines. skin cancer, although not the number one killer, is a cause for concern. |

How stupid can you get? Most people in America wants to be something they're not. Look around you. Filipinas are very beautiful the way they are. I hope they never change. I love the born with tan and the fact they don't need a ton of make up to stay beautiful. Who says they all want to be white? |

The right word is look "mestizo" not white. |

i think what you meant is not actually white but fair colored skin, yeah, you're right, because many finds it , among females to be more attractive, it's in the biology of beauty, as times magazine once reported, natural in humans |

How did you know that Filipinos wants to be "White", do you think it is because Filipinos migrate there and have the US citizenship? You know that whatever a person do whether he/she is a Filipino, Indian or German he/she cannot be "White" even Michael Jackson cannot be, right?
So, my point is you don't have to worry because it will not happen.
About product that Filipinos take here in the Philippines? What is that a whitening pill? Well, it doesn't mean we like to be "white", we just want a fairer skin. Why we want fairer skin? The same way Americans or any other race go to tanning spas or beaches to get their skin tanned. In short--no big deal! |

want to be white??? LOL. are you fu*king kidding me??? Filipinos are always proud of who & what they are! We are proud of our culture. The last thing in the world that anyone wants to ever is WHITE b/c this is how crazy you white people think & talk about how other cultures want to be WHITE TRASH. I DON'T THINK SO.
P.S.

I am a White American and married a brown Filipino (sorry but I had to be fair), and I found at our wedding that they tried to make up my wife so she looked as white as possible--I really didn't like it because I thought her natural skin tone looked beautiful. But for me they tried to make me look tanned, and put make up on me to darken me up. Perhaps if they just wanted everything to look whiter, they would have left me the same. So I think its more along the lines that the grass is greener on the other side and or as my Grandfather says, "we all want to be something that we're not". |

Well this is my own theory..
but i think it has to do with economic status.
perhaps the lighter one's skin is, the better his or her job is.
if you see the men collecting the garbage or working the fields, they are DARK sometimes you could say black even.
that is HARD labor. sweat and tears.
but take a look at the stars that we idolize!!!!
i would say most if not ALL of them are light skinned.
and i also have noticed that in the SM markets, you will hardly find the dark skinned people shopping there. mostly it's the average tan - white skinned families that you see. the ones who can afford to shop and buy melon that is already cut for you and packaged to eat right then and there.
in conclusion, its merely an economic statement. |

You know, Filpinos has hang-over as with colonial mentality.
We had been Spanish regime for 390 or so years and inhabitants looked up with those white colonizers. Ladies, not knowing that tan skin is the best and admired by westerns , want to be white covered all for romantic appeal. |

i think it's because some filipinos think that having a fair or "mestizo"-like complexion is more superior than having a "moreno" complexion. |
