Nothing can replace an old tradition and even in hard times such a tradition must go on no matter what. One thing at least should be done is controlling and cutting down on how much rice to be thrown at the newlyweds.
These are hard times am sure but tradition must go on. How many people would love to waste a handful of rice knowing it will bring luck to a couple of love birds?
This is only a crisis and with God's well we shall overcome...
God bless...

since we cannot afford to throw away a good cup of rice, why not throw them a handful of salt instead? We have it a-plenty here in Pangasinan.... |

It's high time, people stop eating rice. Filipinos should try other crops such as potatoes like the Irish does. I suggest other root crops as well such as yam, ube, sweet potato. these are very good substitute and very easy to grow. and yes, these root crops come very handy if used in wedding celebrations |

we dont use rice grains in weddings anymore, most weddings are using loose rose petals.although rice is more practical, it is cheap compare to fresh roses. |

The new thing these days are butterflies instead of rice..They come in little cardboard boxes so that guests can release the butterflies as the new couple exits the church. |

Bougainvillea flowers. Cheaper and abundant during summer or in June. You can even choose a variety of colors. |

Coins. In some weddings that I attended, they threw coins...not at the couple but just right before the couple steps out of the church. Hmmm...there might be problems about procuring enough coins. Anyway, what about colorful confetti instead of rice? Or, if the couple really demand that rice be thrown, lessen the quantity. Half a cup instead of 1. |

This TFC Show, Goin Bulilit, showed two newly weds getting hurt when corn was thrown instead. Since it was a comedy show, it was not just the grain (ears) that were thrown, but the whole fruit, corncob and all. Ouch! |
