Should "sabong" (cockfights) be banned in the Philippines??

the men in my family are sabong enthusiasts. just like fel's, my dad spends a lot buying well-bred and cared-for roosters. and he religiously buys those pellets and cock. meals. it does relax my Dad and keeps him occupied but again, as what Felicity says cockfight gambling has it's ups and downs. you get some, you lose a lot as well. i vote for a regulation instead of a ban though.

I don't think your suggestion would sit well with both the cockfighting enthusiasts and the bettors. It's a Filipino way of life, a form of Sunday entertainment for the men. It is already part of our culture, even tradition, to have Sunday cockfighting events.

Well, In my opinion i think it should be banned. but if its traditional and apart of there beliefs then it shouldn't be banned. its the same as witchcraft back in the old days.if you were a witch you'd be burned weather you could prove you weren't or not. its just one of those things that if they believe its what there god or religion would want them to be doing that thats what there going to do.

No, it's good business for those who own the chickens, and it's fun to watch anyway. I don't see it as animal cruelty because it's their nature to fight each other anyway.

I think no. As long as we idolize Manny Pacquiao, and boxers seem to find pleasure and enjoyment in fighting silly in the ring, and just as we pay good money watching them bloody and destroy each other, we should not deny others of the same pleasure even though they be roosters.

I agree with crispy pata. Im a filipino and whenever I go and visit its like tradition to go and have to see one. It is a lifestyle something you cant change.

Cockfighting was banned during the Spanish regime and it started the revolution. With so many politicians and crooks betting on this game I think it should be banned.

How I wish... so that my father will not waste his money buying those expensive roosters and for the all the medications, vitamins and feeds for them. He even hired caretakers to take care for them at our farm while he's abroad!! And to top it all, he spend a lot of money for the 'sabong' (cockfighting).. it might be good if he always won but when it comes to gambling.. there's always ups and downs!! So sorry for the 'sabongeros'...

It should not be banned same with boxing wherein there's a move by a congressman to ban it.
